2024-25 College Football National Championship Odds & Futures

Georgia 2024 National Title Odds ()

An argument could be made that the Georgia Bulldogs were the best team in the nation in 2023-24 on a power ratings basis. They missed out on the playoffs after losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Conference Championship, and in 2024-25 they are a near guarantee to make it into the new format barring an utter catastrophe. Carson Beck returns to man the helm at quarterback, leading an efficient offense that revolves around getting their superstar skill players out in the open field. Couple that with another dominant defensive class coming, and Georgia should once again be the team to beat next season.

Ohio State 2024 National Title Odds ()

Like Georgia, Ohio State can make an argument for being screwed by the old system as they were one of the best teams in the nation. A loss to Michigan kept them out of the Big Ten Conference Championship, losing any and all hope they had for the playoffs as well. They now bring back an elite defense that ranked 15th in Def Success Rate and top five in Points per Opportunity, as well as retooling their offense with the additions of star running back Quinshon Judkins and Kansas State quarterback Will Howard from the transfer portal. The Big Ten may be beefing up with new additions, but Ohio State is in a great position to bounce back with a run to the National Championship.

Alabama 2024 National Title Odds ()

Nick Saban is now retired, leaving their future looking bleak in the first year under former Washington coach Kalen DeBoer. Luckily for Alabama, all DeBoer does is win as his history as a head coach indicates. The issue for the Tide in their first year under DeBoer is that quarterback Jalen Milroe doesn’t exactly fit in his system. DeBoer runs a heavy play action type of offense, picking apart gaps in coverage with the short throw in order to set up the deep pass. Milroe has plenty of time to work on his passing before the start of the next season, yet DeBoer may be better off looking elsewhere in the portal in order to have instant success.

Michigan 2024 National Title Odds ()

Michigan may be on cloud nine right now after their championship win, but potential suspensions, coaching changes, and sanctions loom large over the program heading into next season.

JJ McCarthy is also potentially entering the draft, losing one of the programs best quarterbacks in Michigan history in quite some time. Until the question marks surrounding the identity of this team are answered, Michigan is an immediate pass in the futures market. Even in the new playoff format as Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC are all viable contenders who can bump Michigan out of the picture.

2025 CFB Championship Best Bet

Everything that could have gone wrong for Utah, went wrong last season. Star quarterback Cam Rising failed to make his return from a torn ACL injury in the season before, hampering their offense as they struggled to field any sort of productive passer under center. With no true passing presence, opposing defenses were able to routinely stack the box and shut down their ground game as well. Utah finished the season ranked 81st in Success Rate, 106th in Explosiveness, and 110th in Points per Opportunity.

With a fully healthy Cam Rising back into the fold, expect Utah’s offense to bounce back to competitive metrics as we have seen in years past with their Pac 12 Championships. His passing ability will be able to stretch out opposing defenses to the benefit of their ground game, as well as extend drives and keep their defense fresh throughout the contest. Head coach Kyle Whittingham makes the most of the talent he has at his disposal, now getting his quarterback to elevate the team as a whole.

Speaking of their defense, that was another strong suit this year as they finished the season ranked 16th in Def Success Rate. Even amidst season ending injuries to starting linebacker Lander Barton and edge rusher Logan Fano, Utah still managed to hold opposing high powered Pac 12 offenses to relatively underwhelming performances. They are losing key pieces in their secondary to the transfer portal and NFL Draft, yet Utah has all season to attack the transfer portal and retool their dominant defense.

While Cam Rising plays a major role for this wager, it’s Utah’s ability to win the Big 12 in their first year in the conference that is the tipping point for making this bet. The Big 12 is relatively weak heading into next season, yet the winner of the conference championship moves on to the playoffs. Only Kansas State and Arizona serve as legitimate threats for the conference title, giving Utah a great chance at making a run next year. Their high odds give plenty of opportunities to hedge as well.
