Aaron Rodgers Fantasy Football Outlook & Value 2019

By his standards, Aaron Rodgers had a rough 2018. He still finished 6th in passing yards (4,442) and 1st in interceptions (he threw just 2). That being said, he was 13th in the league in TDs at 25 and 16th in QBR at 60.4. 2019 is shaping up to be a big year for Rodgers, though. Probably more important than any free agency move, the Packers rid themselves of Mike McCarthy during the 2018 season and brought Matt LaFleur in over the offseason. It’s no secret that McCarthy and Rodgers didn’t see eye to eye much of the time, so a change in personnel is huge here (LaFleur will also serve as offensive play-caller).

ESPN and Yahoo contributor Evan Massey reports that Rodgers has a “fresh outlook” and seems to be enjoying himself more than he has in some time. This is good news for Packers fans and Rodgers fantasy owners alike. Rodgers, obviously, has a very high floor. Even if he has an off year like last year, he’s still going to be one of it not the most productive players on your roster. He’s also currently listed as being the second most likely to be MVP behind Patrick Mahomes by sports books around the country.

Green Bay PackersDevante Adams and Geronimo Allison round out versatile targets for Rodgers. A new offensive scheme will only help, as play calling seemed to be one of the main issues for the Packers last year. Cobb is no longer with the Packers, so Allison will likely be lining up in the slot, hopefully giving better production than Cobb was able to last year. It’s looking like the speedy Marquez Valdes-Scantling is being developed to take over Allison’s spot on the boundary. Other players that are likely to find themselves in the slot over the course of the season are Robert Tonyan, Jimmy Graham, and Jace Sternberger. All in all, Rodgers won’t have a shortage of available targets. We can expect a large chunk of his attention to be on Adams, still, but these other names still pose a threat to defenses around the league.

Rodgers current ADP (average draft position) is 5.04 and his action value in a $200 total is $35. This is a perfect value for the veteran QB. Rodgers has proven year in and year out that he carries the Packers offense, so he’s going to be doing much of the heavy lifting in the way of yardage and TD production. If the Packers do well, which they are projected to do this year, that means Rodgers is doing well beneath it. It’s worth noting, though, that their defense looks the best it has in years going into the 2019/20 season, so maybe Rodgers will have some leeway.
