San Francisco Giants Vs. Zac Gallen (R)

Joc Pederson fresh off his second World Series championship (Dodgers – 2020 and Braves – 2021), the left-handed hitting outfielder in his first season with San Francisco leads the team in home runs (17), slugging percentage (.529) and OPS (.861) in 2022.  The former Los Angeles Dodger is second on the Giants in total bases (118) and runs batted in (41) this season.  Last week he was named a starter for the National League All-Star squad; it’ll be his first appearance in the Mid-Summer Classic.

Mike Yastrzemski has hit 17 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, knocked in 34 runs, and accumulated 102 total bases in 2022.  Additionally, Yastrzemski has an .729 OPS with a .400 slugging percentage this season.   Right fielder, Luis Gonzalez leads the Giants in batting at .302 in 2022.  He’s hit 13 doubles, a triple, three home runs with 26 runs batted in this season.

Wilmer Flores, who’s capable playing all over the infield is hitting .253 in 80 games this season.  He’s second on the team in home runs with 12 and leads the Giants in runs batted in (48) and total bases (122).  Flores in his third season as Giant has a .780 OPS with a .440 slugging percentage in 2022. 

Thairo Estrada has played well at second base this season, hitting .256 in over 250 at-bats.  He has hit 13 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, driven in 31 runs and accumulated 101 total bases with an OPS of .707 in 2022.

Zac Gallen is 4-2 in 16 starts with an ERA of 3.62 for Arizona this season.  The righty has tossed 87 innings in 2022, striking out 84 while allowing 35 runs with a 1.092 WHIP.  Gallen also leads the league in hit batters with 10.

Offensively, Arizona is averaging 4.35 runs per nine innings, 19th in Major League Baseball.  They have a team batting average of .222, 28th in the league, and their OPS is .684, 26th in all of MLB.  The Diamondbacks’ pitching staff has allowed 4.81 runs per nine innings, 24th in the league with opponents’ batting .251 against the team, 22nd in MLB. 

The Giants are averaging 4.78 runs per nine innings, fifth overall in MLB.  They have a team batting average of .235, 23rd in the league, and their OPS is .714, 14th overall in baseball.  San Francisco’s pitching staff has allowed 4.41 runs per nine innings, 18th in MLB with opponents’ batting .252 against the club, 23rd in the league.  I’m going with the Giants in this game, covering the 1.5 run spread as San Francisco has more offensive threats and depth than Arizona.
