Auburn vs Georgia Odds, Picks, Predictions NCAAB (1/4/23)

Auburn is visiting Georgia in an early SEC test for both teams. Auburn just won a close game against Florida, while Georgia also won a close game, but against Rider. This should be an interesting matchup for both teams to see how good they are right now in conference play. Let’s take a look at the odds and make some picks and predictions for this game!

Auburn vs. Georgia Odds

Auburn is a 6.5-point road favorite against Georgia and is at -280 on the money line. The over/under is also at 136. Auburn being favored by this much on the road makes sense because Georgia hasn’t been as good as Auburn has been this year. The over/under makes sense too because both teams aren’t amazing on offense and can defend. This spread should stay right around this number before tip-off too.

Auburn vs. Georgia Prediction & Pick

The pick: Auburn -6.5

Auburn hasn’t been as good as they were last year, but they’ve still been very good. They are still guard oriented with Wendell Green Jr. leading the way for the Tigers in scoring and assists and with K.D. Johnson not far behind in terms of impact from the guard position. The front court has been good this year too with Johni Broome being a standout and leading the team in rebounds and blocks. Jaylin Williams has also been good and leads the team in steals too. There’s no Jabari Smith or Walker Kessler on this team, but this team still has firepower and talent to compete in the SEC.

As a team, They are among the better teams in all of college basketball at holding points below their average scoring total on defense. On the other side, Georgia has been better than expected this year, but there’s been nothing overly impressive that they’ve done so far. Their two best players are their two starting guards. Kario Oquendo and Terry Roberts are the two leading scorers for the Bulldogs and have the two keys for the Bulldogs’ offense. Terry Roberts also leads Georgia in assists and steals. Braelen Bridges is probably Georgia’s best big man because he’s the third leading scorer on the team. As a team they need to find more offense overall, but they play very good defense. Auburn is the pick here because they have more to trust than Georgia does. It will be a close game for a little bit but expect Auburn to pull away late and cover.

Auburn vs. Georgia Key Matchups

Can Terry Roberts go toe-to-toe with Wendell Green Jr.? Can K.D. Johnson go toe-to-toe with Kario Oquendo?

Wendell Green Jr. vs Terry Roberts

Wendell Green Jr. has stepped up for Auburn this year and has been much better than last year. He averages 13 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds for the year. He’s taken over the offense this year after Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler left for the NBA. For Georgia, Terry Roberts has been very good too. He averages 14 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds for the year. Roberts is taller than Green, but Green thrives on his quickness. This will be a huge matchup in this game. This point guard matchup will be huge for who wins this game because these two do so much for each other’s team. Green might also have the slight edge here in this game.

Kario Oquendo vs K.D. Johnson

Kario Oquendo has been great for Georgia this year. He averages 14 points, 1 assist, and 4 rebounds for the year. He’s part of the two-headed monster in the Georgia back court with Roberts this year. K.D. Johnson has also been good, but he’s taken a step back from last year in scoring. He averages 10 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds for the year. This is another guard matchup where height matters. Oquendo is taller than Johnson, but Johnson also thrives on his quickness. Both of these teams are guard-oriented, so this matchup will also be a a huge deciding factor in this game. Oquendo might also have the slight edge here in this game.
