Boston Celtics vs. Dallas Mavericks 01/04/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Breakdown, Odds, Daily Fantasy, Betting

Boston Celtics vs. Dallas Mavericks Preview

The Boston Celtics (22-15) host the Dallas Mavericks (18-19) tonight in the second and final game of the season series. In the first game this season on November 24, the Mavericks got the better of the Celtics with a 113-104 win behind 20 points from Harrison Barnes.

Both teams are coming off of wins, but the Celtics are 5-5 in their last 10, while Dallas has struggled recently losing seven of their last 10.

The Celtics are on a homestand, and the Mavericks have only won three games on the road this season, so they’ll need to beat a Boston team who has done well to protect their home court.

Celtics Analysis

Boston CelticsThe Boston Celtics bounced back from their loss to San Antonio on Monday with a much-needed win against the Minnesota Timberwolves, even without all-star guard Kyrie Irving.

Gordon Hayward, who has struggled this season, had a breakout performance against Minnesota. Hayward finished with 35 points.

Terry Rozier, who has had trouble getting the consistent minutes he was used to last season, also came up big with 16 points and five assists.

Kyrie Irving and Marcus Morris could both be out tonight, so Boston could be looking for more help from their bench as they take on the Mavericks.

Mavericks Analysis

Dallas MavericksThe Mavericks got off to a 42-point first quarter start in their last game against the Charlotte Hornets and never seemed to look back. The Mavericks have gone from Western Conference contender to 11th place in a matter of weeks, so the win was a good start to the new year for Dallas.

The Mavs’ young backcourt of Luka Doncic and Dennis Smith Jr. had a combined 36 points and 11 assists. Doncic also added 10 rebounds.

Smith has performed well since returning to the lineup and is shooting 53 percent from long range.

Coach Rick Carlisle got several players involved which led to five players in double figures and no one playing extended minutes, which puts them in good position against the Celtics.

Luka Doncic ($7.8k) and Jayson Tatum ($6.1k) can serve as both stud and value picks for tonight’s game. Doncic has been fantastic for the Mavs lately. Aside from one game, he’s fluctuated between the mid-30s to high 40s lately and he is projected for 32.98 tonight.

Tatum could use a good game to shake off his last performance against Minnesota, and he’s expected to deliver with 33.14 fantasy points on FanDuel tonight.

Other good options here are Dennis Smith Jr. and Terry Rozier.
