Boston Celtics vs Washington Wizards 8/13/20: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds

Boston Celtics vs. Washington Wizards Matchup Preview

We have officially reached the end of the regular season for both of these teams. Washington has been eliminated from the playoffs, while the Celtics are officially locked into the four-seed. Boston has won four in a row, and Washington’s losing streak is now at seven. Boston is going to use this game to get some extra rest, as the news broke early Wednesday that they will rest Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum. Walker is the most crucial as he has been on a minutes limit due to the knee issue. This will open up some extremely cheap DFS values for those playing and the line opened at -10 for Boston will certainly shrink. You will have to get up early if you are on the west coast as this one starts at noon eastern time.

SF: Jayson Tatum
PF: Gordon Hayward
C: Daniel Theis

Celtics Analysis

Boston CelticsWith all of the names out today we can dive into the new names getting minutes. With Walker, Smart, and Brown out in the backcourt, this is going to open up minutes for Brad Wanamaker. Brad Stevens has also talked about wanting to get Romeo Langford and Carsen Edwards some minutes. All three names should expect to see plenty of time. Semi Ojeleye and Grant Williams will likely pick up a lot of the small and power forward minutes. They can also roll some three-guard lineups against a smaller Wizards team. Daniel Theis is the only starter going tonight but will certainly give way to most of the bigs. Brad Stevens is coming fresh off an extension and the rotation should get wonky for this one. Look for the younger Celtics to get some run.

This is a great matchup for the Celtics youth as the Wizards are one of the worst teams in the league on the defensive side. They have allowed 119 points and have allowed opponents to shoot 46% from the floor. Boston has the edge in most categories this season, but Washington does have one of the better offenses. The difference is Bradley Beal being off the floor. Both sides will be looking more at their younger players.

Wizards Starting 5

PG: Ish Smith
SG: Troy Brown Jr.
SF: Isaac Bonga
PF: Rui Hachimura
C: Thomas Bryant

Wizards Analysis

Washington WizardsThe chance at the playoff was already slim as the Wizards came into the bubble. They were going to be without Bradley Beal, but this has opened up a lot of usage for the young players. The offense has dropped as they have averaged 104 points per game since returning, but have faced four tougher defenses. Tomas Bryant has led the way averaging 16 points and eight rebounds since the restart. He also has 2.4 blocks per game. Troy Brown was the name a lot of us wanted to see pick it up but his shot has really struggled. Ish Smith and Shabazz Napier have been splitting time in the backcourt. Smith has been the more productive name, averaging 14 points and 5 assists per game. Rui Hachimura is one of the names I am most excited about from the recent draft class. The shot has been a little off since the break but he continues to be a great source of points and finds himself averaging six rebounds per game.

Celtics vs Wizards Fantasy Basketball Angle

Thomas BryantAs regular season DFS is on its last straw, it can get extremely messy. Boston is resting five players as mentioned above, leaving a lot of value and very cheap names to help build a stars and scrubs lineup if needed. Running the numbers with all these names off the court, there is not a larger sample size. Tacko Fall and Enes Kanter have crushed in small sample sizes, while the rest of the names have a usage rate near 20%. While Brad Wanamaker has been the first guy in the backcourt when Smart and Walker are out, the issue with today’s game is that minutes could be all over the place. Washington makes a bit more sense to attack as Boston’s defense will not be on par with what it usually is and the Wizards rotation should continue to be the same. Bryant, Hachimura, Brown, and Smith continue to be values.
