Matchup Preview
An AL battle of third place teams kicks off tonight at Fenway Park. The White Sox are 36-39 on the year and are currently 13.0 games back in the AL Central. The Red Sox are 42-37 and 8.0 games back in the East. These two teams matched up in early May, and Boston took 3 out of 4.
It’ll be White Sox ace Lucas Giolito taking the hill tonight. He had a rare rough outing in his last start against the Cubs, giving up 6 runs in 4 1/3 innings. Before that, he had 8 straight starts that resulted in wins. Despite only going 4 1/3, he still struck out 9. He’s 6-1 on the road this year with an ERA of 2.49.
The left-handed Eduardo Rodriguez gets the nod for the Red Sox tonight. On the year, he’s 8-4 with an ERA of 4.71 and 93 Ks. He’s gone 7 innings in his last two starts, and is 3-1 with an ERA of 4.00 at Fenway this year. In four starts against the White Sox in his career, he’s 2-0 with an ERA of 2.66.

Red Sox Analysis
7-3 in their last 10, the Red Sox are keeping pace in the ultra-competitive AL Central. While 8.0 games back feels like a lot, there’s a lot of baseball left to be played, not to mention wild card possibilities. They fell to the Blue Jays 1 win to two in their last series.
Nunez, Benintendi, Devers, Holy, and Vasquez are all hitting above .300 over the last week. That being said, the Red Sox haven’t hit Giolito very well in the past. Benintendi, Betts, and Martinez are the only Red Sox who have recorded hits off of the right-hander in his two games started against the Red Sox.
Eduardo Rodriguez is having a productive year thus far. While not boasting the best individual stats, the Red Sox are 11-4 when he’s started. He’s 7-2 in night games on the year and has allowed 8 runs in 4 starts against the White Sox in his career.

White Sox Analysis
At 36-39, it may not seem like a stellar season for the White Sox, but after finishing 62-100 last season, it’s a huge improvement. The White Sox are slowly putting themselves in a position to be contenders again, whether it’s this year or in the next few years, it’ll be exciting to watch.
Moncada, Cordell, Anderson, Garcia, and McCann have all been hot lately, hitting above .300 over the least week. In that span, those five have combined for 12 extra base hits. McCann is hitting .231 with 2 home runs off of Rodriguez through 13 ABs. Leury Garcia is 2-5 off the left-hander.
Giolito has been astounding for the White Sox this season. He has a WAR of 3.0 thus far with a WHIP of 1.020. He’s fanned 104 in 85.1 innings pitched and is sitting nicely with an ERA of 2.74. In one game started against the Red Sox earlier this year, he gave up 3 runs in 5 innings pitched, which resulted in a no decision.
Red Sox vs. White Sox
The line is currently set at BOS -175 CWS +150 after opening at BOS -160 CWS +150. This line movement only plays into what I’d recommend you’d bet, White Sox money line. With Giolito on the mound, this is a fantastic value. Sure, the Red Sox have hot bats lately, but so do the White Sox and Giolito will be doing everything in his power to turn things around after his last rough start.
