Brooklyn Nets vs. Boston Celtics Matchup Preview (11/24/21)

The surging, Kevin Durant-led Brooklyn Nets (13-5) will make their way to TD Garden to battle with the Boston Celtics (10-8). Despite a rough and inconsistent start for the Celtics, they currently stand in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. They also just got Jaylen Brown after he missed several games due to a lingering hamstring injury. In his first game back, he dropped 19 points in just under 23 minutes. Considering he normally plays more than 30 minutes, this is a great sign as he looked like he was at full strength or at least near it. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been on fire, winning six of their past seven and 11 of their past 13. Patty Mills has stepped up huge for the Nets and could continue his terrific play now that he is getting some time as a starter. This game will be jam-packed with superstar talent and a treat for any real NBA fan. Below we will take a look at what potential outcomes we might see.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Boston Celtics Betting Odds

Odds have not dropped from the major sportsbooks yet, but we will keep you updated as they are made available for tomorrow night’s slate. You can also keep an eye on the above table that will populate when they are available.

I would imagine that the Celtics will be slight underdogs, but I suppose I can’t say for sure since Jaylen Brown is back and they are playing at home. Brooklyn is currently the best three-point shooting team in the NBA and, despite not playing as fast-paced as last season, still puts up a healthy amount of points. Durant is playing at an NBA level, and Harden seems to have finally broken from his slump. Additionally, the Nets rank ninth in defensive efficiency and second in eFG% (effective field goal percentage). This is a substantially different team in terms of style of play than we saw last season, and I believe they are just scraping the surface of their potential. Take the Nets ML as long as the odds are somewhat favorable (around -150 or better).

Brooklyn Nets Vs. Boston Celtics

Brooklyn Nets Starting Lineup

PG: Patty Mills
SG: James Harden
SF: Deandre’ Bembry
PF: Kevin Durant
C: Blake Griffin

Brooklyn Nets Analysis

The Brooklyn Nets could not have possibly expected the series of events that would transpire to this point. They still don’t have Kyrie Irving and have had some unexpected heroes, such as Patty Mills, step up and perform at a high level on both ends. Mills has averaged 19.4 points per game in his past five games, four of which he has started. James Harden seems to have finally hit his stride in the past six games, as he has averaged 26 points, 9.7 assists, and 6.8 rebounds. The Nets struggled during the period that Harden was struggling, and it is hard to imagine that there was no correlation. Brooklyn should have fairly smooth sailing for the rest of the season as long as its players stay relatively healthy.

Boston Celtics Starting Lineup

PG: Marcus Smart
SG: Jaylen Brown
SF: Jayson Tatum
PF: Robert Williams III
C: Al Horford

Boston Celtics Analysis

The Boston Celtics have a few positives that they can lean on whenever times get tough. For one, they just secured an 18-point win against the Houston Rockets. While this should not be looked at as anything impressive, it at least gets them a much-needed win. Additionally, Jaylen Brown returned from the hampering hamstring injury that has kept him out for several weeks. In his return, Brown scored 19 points in just shy of 23 minutes. Brown shot it well, converting on six of his 13 attempts from the field. It can always be challenging for players to get their legs back after an injury, so it was great to see him show no signs of struggle. Boston has also won three straight games and four of its past five games, including the Lakers, Rockets, Thunder, and Cavaliers. The Celtics’ opponents were certainly not the NBA’s heavyweights, but it is a positive that they are now winning games they obviously should. Now that chaos has been restored in Boston, and Jaylen Brown is back from his injury, the future appears to be a bit brighter. Additionally, Jayson Tatum has been on a tear recently, and with Jaylen Brown back, the floor should be even more open. Dennis Schroder will resume his position as the sixth man, which should help the Celtics’ bench scoring substantially.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Boston Celtics Daily Fantasy Picks

Patty Mills has been an incredible asset for the Brooklyn Nets. Without Mills, it is hard to imagine the Nets being 13-5. Mills has averaged 11.9 points per game on a star-studded roster with many guys who can score at a high level. He has had some huge breakout games, including the Nets’ first game against the Milwaukee Bucks. During that time, Mills was coming off the bench; however, in his past five games, four of which he started, Mills has averaged 19.4 points per game with an explosive 29 point outing against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Mills will probably start for the foreseeable future, so it is a good idea to snag him since he is getting more looks and more minutes.

It is safe to say that Jayson Tatum has found his groove. Although Tatum has averages of 25.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists on the season, his past four games have been even substantially more impressive. During that four-game stretch, Tatum put up an average of 33.5 points on a near 50/40/90 shooting split. Tatum has found his groove, and the return of Jaylen Brown should not cut into his share much, if at all. As a matter of fact, Brown returned in the last game for the first time in several weeks and only played 22 minutes while taking 13 shots. The Celtics will ramp up Brown’s minutes and workload slowly to ensure he does not suffer a setback to his injury, but that should not interfere with Tatum at all. I would even contend that Brown coming back is a good thing for Tatum’s numbers: Brown’s presence forces defenses to stay at home on him, thus opening up the floor a bit more. While Tatum is on this hot streak, you should ride it, even if it means taking a big chunk of your DFS salary.
