Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Player Prop Picks
The Panthers cleaned house this week as head coach Frank Reich, quarterbacks coach Josh McCown, and running backs coach Duce Staley are out the door. As a result, the Carolina offense should look quite different this week with interim coach Chris Tabor embracing more RPO and play action, areas where rookie quarterback Bryce Young thrives.
How will that affect the player prop betting markets? That’s what we’re here to break down, and I’ll provide some picks I see as having value in this article. Be sure to check out the Lineups YouTube page for more player prop coverage for the NFL Week 13 games. Let’s get to work.
Bryce Young Over 192.5 Passing Yards (-115 BetMGM)
This one isn’t going to be comfortable to place, but it’s often the bets that are least comfortable that offer the most value. It’s been a rough debut season for first overall pick Bryce Young, but the changes in the offense coaching staff can only help his production as there was a clear disconnect between him and Frank Reich.
This matchup provides an excellent opportunity for Young to gain comfort in the new look offense as Tampa Bay’s defense has fallen off a cliff lately. The Buccaneers are 29th in defensive EPA/play since Week 7 as injuries to cornerbacks Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean have ruined their pass coverage. Look for a redemption path for Young over the final stretch of the season starting this week.
Adam Thielen Over 58.5 Receiving Yards (-115 BetMGM)
If Young is set to bounce back in an easy matchup this week, that likely means a strong outing from top wide receiver Adam Thielen. While he’s been quiet lately, Thielen has gone over this receiving yardage prop in six of eleven games this season. The Buccaneers have allowed 267.8 passing yards per game this year, the second-most in the NFL.
Slot receivers have been a particular sore spot for the Buccaneers as they’ve allowed the second-most receiving yards to slots. Rookie UDFA Christian Izien has struggled in that role as he has coughed up an 80% catch rate and a 104.1 passer rating per PFF. Look for Thielen to bounce back this week in a strong matchup.
Rachaad White Over 67.5 Rushing Yards (-115 BetMGM)
While I’m expecting some improvement from the Panthers’ offense this week under new management, it’s hard to project the same for their run defense. Carolina ranks dead last in run defense DVOA and EPA as they’ve allowed 124.9 rushing yards per game, the ninth-most in the NFL. The Panthers also rank 30th in defensive line yards, frequently allowing running backs to get to the second level.
Rachaad White hasn’t been a particularly efficient runner this season, and he’s only been over this number in three of his eleven games this season. However, an offensive line ranked 31st in adjusted line yards is to blame, and White is still very much capable of taking advantage of a plus matchup, as he showed with 100 yards against the Colts last week.
