Cason Wallace Scouting Report: NBA Comparisons, Draft Rankings, Highlights, Stats
Contents
Cason Wallace is amongst the top lead guard prospects in the 2023 NBA Draft after displaying impressive, translatable defensive instincts and potential for playmaking for others at the next level; his off-ball shooting and movement make him an easy plug-and-play at either guard position as he tries to find minutes early on in his career. Take a look at Cason Wallace’s full scouting report below, featuring strengths, weaknesses, measurements, and player comparisons!
Cason Wallace Scouting Report
Wallace measured reasonably well at the combine, as he is just shy of 6-foot-4 in shoes with a significant plus wingspan. This fits nicely into the narrative of him being a multi-positional defender with easy 1-3 switchability at the next level. Check out Wallace’s other measurements below!
Age: 19
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 195 lbs
Wingspan: 6’8.5”
Position: Point Guard
College/ Professional Team: Kentucky
Strengths: Cason Wallace’s most translatable skill is his ability to defend multiple positions due to his size, length, strength, and quickness. Defense is a coveted skill at the NBA level, as every professional player has scoring talent. Wallace also has shown flashes of being a strong playmaker for others, and with better spacing, his “flashes” should evolve. While off-the-ball and isolation scoring are still reasonably significant question marks for Wallace, his ability to shoot off the catch should get him floor time in his rookie season, ultimately giving him a quick chance to develop.
Weaknesses: The Jrue Holiday comparisons might be a bit premature, frankly, as Wallace is nowhere near shifty and creative enough with the ball to warrant giving him any real isolation opportunities. Whether or not he can grow in this area is to be seen, but he fills enough gaps elsewhere to justify taking him in the late lottery to the mid-first round. Another concern is his ability to finish outside of his floater in the middle of the lane. Eventually, he will have to improve his craftiness around the rim, or teams will not see him as much of an offensive threat.

Cason Wallace NBA Comparison: Collin Sexton/Jrue Holiday lite
In the NBA Draft community, Jrue Holiday seems to be the consensus favorite as a comparison for Cason Wallace, a hard-nosed on-ball defender with solid size and strength for his position. Further, Wallace has displayed competency shooting off the catch and playing off-ball, which will be enormous assets for him as he continues to develop in the pick-and-roll and in self-creation for his shot. It remains to be seen whether Wallace will ever have the overall offensive arsenal that Jrue Holiday possesses; however, he has shown flashes in his first year in college.

Cason Wallace NBA Draft Ranking, Team Fit, Landing Spot
Draft Ranking: 18
Team Fit: Dallas
The Dallas Mavericks went from making the Western Conference Finals a few seasons ago to not even making the playoffs last season, despite bringing in Kyrie Irving at the trade deadline. The most significant difference for Dallas was the absence of Jalen Brunson, who signed a massive deal last summer with the New York Knicks. However, Cason Wallace has the potential to fill that Brunson role for Dallas eventually.
Landing Spot: Washington, Dallas, Utah, Orlando
Cason Wallace’s potential draft position is one of the more volatile in the 2023 NBA Draft, as he could go in the top ten but also could slip towards the end of the lottery and, perhaps, even outside of it. However, there will be a number of teams looking for a potential fix for their lack of point guard depth, including the Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, and Utah Jazz. Any of these teams could be destinations for Wallace after a strong freshman season for the Kentucky Wildcats.
