Los Angeles Chargers vs. Las Vegas Raiders Player Prop Picks
The Raiders host the Chargers on Thursday night in a primetime AFC showdown that has lost some of its luster. Justin Herbert is out for the year with a fractured finger in his throwing hand, which means we’ll see Easton Stick make his first career start. Meanwhile, rookie Aidan O’Connell gets another chance to prove himself against a weak Chargers pass defense.
In this article, I’ll break down some of the top player prop options in this game. Be sure to use the player prop search tool above to make sure you’re getting the best odds for whichever props you select. Also check out the Lineups YouTube page for more coverage of this game. Let’s get to work.
Aidan O’Connell Over 204.5 Passing Yards (-115 Caesars)
This is my favorite player prop on the board on Thursday night. Let’s break it down. O’Connell is coming off a rough game last week with just 171 passing yards, but it came against a Vikings defense that has been elite all year, ranking top six in pass defense EPA and success rate. Brian Flores has done a tremendous job with that unit.
Things get much easier this week against a Chargers defense that ranks 22nd in pass defense EPA and 27th in success rate. The Chargers have allowed 265.8 passing yards per game, the second-most in the NFL, and have allowed 11 of 13 opposing quarterbacks to go over this listed number, including O’Connell himself earlier this season with 238 passing yards in his first career start.
Running back Josh Jacobs got hurt on Sunday, and with a short week here, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him be held out. If he is, that will only mean more pass attempts for an offense that ranks third in pass rate over the last three weeks. O’Connell is more than capable of a solid outing here against a putrid Chargers pass defense.
Michael Mayer Over 19.5 Receiving Yards (-120 BetMGM)
If Aidan O’Connell is finding success in this game, it makes sense to back one of his receivers. Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers are solid options, but for me the top play is Michael Mayer. The rookie tight end out of Notre Dame hasn’t had a signature performance yet this season, but he’s flashed potential at times and has hit the over on this prop in two of his last three games.
More importantly, Mayer was on the field for 51 of 54 snaps last week, and he ran 27 routes, his second-most of the season. In the only game where he cleared that number, he had four catches for 46 yards against the Dolphins a few weeks ago. All of this is pointing to a potential strong finish to the season for Mayer.
The Chargers have been vulnerable against tight ends all season, allowing 60.3 receiving yards per game to the position, which is the sixth-most in the NFL. While Mayer’s red zone equity hasn’t been anything to write home about, I’d also have some interest in his touchdown prop which can be found as high as +600 at FanDuel at the time of writing.
