Charlotte Hornets at Houston Rockets 3/11/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds

Charlotte Hornets at Houston Rockets Preview

The Charlotte Hornets are running out of time if they want to make a run for the playoffs, but somehow the race for the 8th seed will probably be a three-team battle, but the Hornets will need some big wins. Tonight’s matchup on the road against the scorching Houston Rockets should provide one of the tougher matchups remaining on their schedule.

The Hornets are 30-36 on the season and tied for ninth place in the East with the Orlando Magic. Both teams are just one game behind the eighth-place Miami Heat. Charlotte is 3-7 in their last 10 and lost their last game entering tonight’s matchup. Houston has won eight straight and sit in third place in the Western Conference with a 41-25 record. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games.

In their last matchup on February 27, the Rockets won 118-113 behind James Harden’s 30 points. Kemba Walker led Charlotte with 35 points in a losing effort.

Hornets Analysis

Charlotte HornetsThe Charlotte Hornets have one of the toughest two-game stretches after just losing to the Milwaukee Bucks on the road 114-131 and now facing the Rockets in Houston tonight.

Against the Bucks, Charlotte got off to a quick start, building up an eight-point lead in the first quarter, but they were outscored by 21 points in the second half as Milwaukee cruised to their 50th win.

Kemba Walker led the Hornets with 25 points, Miles Bridges added 15 and Nicolas Batum had 14.

In an attempt to provide more scoring punch off the bench, Hornets coach James Borrego has begun utilizing Frank Kaminsky more.

“We need him to shoot the ball. We needed some scoring punch off our bench. Our bench had gotten a little dry,” Borrego said. “We got (Jeremy) Lamb on the second unit now, Tony (Parker) in the second unit, but we needed another scoring punch out there and Frank’s given us that stretching the floor, driving the ball, just giving us more offense right now.”

Kaminsky had 16 points against the Bucks and Lamb added 14, but the Hornets just didn’t have enough firepower to hold off the Bucks.

Rockets Analysis

Houston RocketsThe Houston Rockets were in danger of having their seven-game winning streak snapped by the Dallas Mavericks, but Chris Paul blocked a game-winning shot attempt by Jalen Brunson to seal the game as the Rockets wrapped up their eighth straight win 94-93.

“We’re just really putting it together,” said Rockets guard Eric Gordon. “We’re trying to win a championship, and it starts with now. Not that many games left, but it’s enough to build habits.”

Gordon led the Rockets in scoring with 26 points, in one of the first times James Harden didn’t pace the Rockets. Harden had 20 points and Clint Capela added 17 points and 12 rebounds.

The Rockets seem to be catching fire at the right time as they gear up for the postseason. Aside from what they’ve been able to do on the offensive end, they’ve also been impressive on defense as well, holding their last four opponents under 96 points. Even more impressive is that three of those opponents are Eastern Conference contenders.
