Chicago Bears Analysis
The Chicago Bears have seemingly lost all hope in this season. Last week, they lost embarrassingly to the Detroit Lions, who they have not lost to in three years. The Lions just fired their head coach and general manager, but still came out on top in their first game without them. The status of Matt Nagy seems frail now after having lost now six straight games. However, the Bears remain keeping on into next week against the Houston Texans.
Mitch Trubisky started again for the second straight week and did not fail to lead an impressive looking offense against the Lions’ treacherous defense. He put up 267 yards and one touchdown to Cole Kmet in this one. Mitch certainly passed the eye test against the Lions, but a costly fumble late in the game gave the Lions the go-ahead score. The Texans have very poor defense and give up nearly 70% completion percentage to opposing quarterbacks, while also ranking below average in passing yards and passing touchdowns allowed to opponents.
The run game for the Bears last week led them through this game. Seemingly against one of the worst rushing defenses in the league, David Montgomery and Cordarrelle Patterson destroyed the Detroit Lions on the run. Montgomery put up a line of 17-72-2 and Patterson 10-59-1 to contribute to 140 total team rushing yards. The Houston Texans have a similarly horrible rushing defense, as they rank second to the Lions in rushing yards allowed per game, 27th in rushing touchdowns per game, and give up 4.9 yards per attempt to opponents.
The Bears’ defense, on the other hand, looked quite atrocious against the Lions last weekend. They allowed them 34 points, 400 passing yards from Matthew Stafford, and two touchdowns from Adrian Peterson. Bilal Nichols came up with the only turnover on the day and the Bears only recorded two sacks on Stafford. The Texans’ offensive game has been picking up quite a bit, as they nearly beat the Colts last weekend.

Houston Texans Analysis
The Houston Texans, similar to the Bears, are coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Indianapolis Colts. After suffering a safety to the Colts, the Texans got the ball back and marched to the Colts’ 2-yard line, but a fumbled snap from Deshaun Watson cost them the game. The Texans lost 26-20 to the Colts and even left Deshaun Watson in tears during post-game interviews. The Texans had won three of their last four games before last weekend’s loss, and they will look to regain their winning streak next week on the road.
Deshaun Watson had himself a decent game against one of the toughest defenses in the league. He put up 341 passing yards and one rushing touchdown from an extra 38 rushing yards. This was the first week in six weeks Watson went without throwing for a touchdown pass. Watson also threw for an interception and fumbled the ball in the game. But, he had two receivers catch for over 100 yards each in this game and led them to an almost upset win. The Bears provide a difficult time in the passing game, offering the third-lowest completion percentage to quarterbacks. But, their play has lacked recently, letting up 400 passing yards to Matthew Stafford last week without Kenny Golladay.
The Texans’ defense has been better over the last few weeks and put up a great showing last weekend. They only allowed 3.8 yards per attempt to one of the better rushing offenses and provided three sacks and 8 tackles for loss. This was the lowest amount of points the Colts have been held to since they played the Baltimore Ravens four weeks ago. The Bears’ offense has looked better with Mitch Trubisky and their run game has improved. They will need to try to stop the run game and contain Allen Robinson.
The Texans’ have faced some big obstacles in their organization this season. After having to fire Bill O’Brien, they did get better and have been pulling off great wins. Before their loss last week, the Texans put up 41 on the Detroit Lions in a debacle performance on Thanksgiving. Plus, they beat up on the New England Patriots and were able to put up nearly 30 on one of the better defenses in the league. The Bears will be no walk in the park for this team, but they can certainly get back to winning next week.

The Chicago Bears have pretty much-lost hope in their playoff run. The Vikings are starting to win more games and the Cardinals are going to continue to stay competitive. The Bears have a lot of internal issues and they have lost the locker room. They are going to start to think more about next year. The Houston Texans are coming off of a loss and will want to win this game back to instill their confidence. I think the Houston offense will out-perform the Bears’ defense and hand the Bears another loss. I would take Texans’ money line and spread for this one.
I am a bit surprised to see that the over/under line is so low for this game. These are two offenses that have been able to show production in recent games, while also have had pretty allowing defenses in recent games too. I would take the over for this one.

Love/Hate Fantasy Picks
Love
David Montgomery made the start ’em list for me last week for a reason. The Lions’ rushing defense. He performed precisely to that expectation, putting up 27.1 fantasy points, his second-highest of the season following his previous high last week against the Packers. The Houston Texans are second to the Detroit Lions in fantasy points allowed to running backs this season, and I would recommend starting David Montgomery again.
Hate
Keke Coutee had a phenomenal game last week against the Indianapolis Colts, putting up 141 yards and 22.1 fantasy points. However, before that game, he had only had 6 catches on the year. The Bears give up a lot more points to tight ends than they do to wide receivers, and the Bears’ secondary will be all Coutee and Cooks. I would hold off on starting him before we can see if Coutee is legit.
