Cleveland Browns Analysis

Cleveland BrownsThe Browns’ defense won the game for them on Sunday, They were able to cause 4 turnovers from Dwayne Haskins and 6 total turnovers in the game to give their offense ideal field position all day long. The offense struggled against a good Washington defense when starting in their own territory; however, Mayfield, Chubb, and Hunt were able to produce enough with the insane starting field position that they were repeatedly given, and were able to put up 34 points.

The offense will have to get going on their own against this Dallas Cowboys team. The defense is much weaker than Washington’s, and Baker Mayfield will need to keep pace with Dak Prescott and his talented WR core. I think that this game is the game that Mayfield will need to start hitting Beckham for big plays. It seems like this is a make or break game for the confidence in Mayfield. He will need to keep up with the Dallas offense. Dallas will most likely sell out to stop Chubb and Hunt from getting going and will dare Mayfield to beat them. I am very excited to see the outcome.

On the defensive side of the ball, Myles Garrett will look to build off an amazing Sunday where he had two sacks and a forced fumble alongside its recovery. Sheldon Richardson also really stepped up for the Browns and consistently helped plug up running lanes while also being able to release and get pressure on the QB during passing downs. It will be a tough assignment against a good Cowboys’ line. Stopping Zeke and forcing passing down situations where the entire defense can focus on pressuring Dak will be a huge key to slowing down the offense for the Cowboys.

The secondary for the Browns was gifted some pretty easy interceptions. This will be an extremely hard WR core to cover regardless if Amari Cooper plays. As I said before the Dline will need to get pressure on Dak and help them out. A key matchup to watch will be Denzel Ward vs whoever he gets assigned to. If Ward can at least lock down one of those Cowboy playmakers it will be huge for the defense.

Dallas Cowboys Analysis

Dallas CowboysThe Cowboys are coming off another loss, this time against the red-hot Seattle Seahawks. There were a lot of positives in the game, but unfortunately, none of those positives were for the defense who has looked abhorrent so far in 2020. Mike Nolan will have to try something different this week against the Browns in hopes of finally stopping an opposing offense.

Dak Prescott was a huge bright spot for the Cowboys in their game against the Seahawks. He looked to be on fire, consistently hitting his WRs including Cedrick Wilson who came in relief of an injured Amari Cooper to put up 107 yards and 2 scores. The line did a good job of keeping Dak relatively clean in a very pass-heavy game script. They will have their hands full on Sunday with Myles Garrett coming off the outside. Allowing Dak time in the pocket to hit these explosive WRs could be one area that can push this game in favor of the Cowboys.

Ezekiel Elliot will not have an easy time on the ground with a stout front 7 for the Browns coming into town. That of course will not stop Zeke from trying. Look to McCarthy to scheme up some screens and dump-offs to get Elliot into positions and space where he can make people miss and gain chunk yardage.

The defense has been the weakness so far for the Cowboys. Specifically, the secondary. There is little hope for the DB group to cover Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry; however, the best course of action is to pressure Mayfield and make him miss. That is why I am looking at the front 4 for the Cowboys to be the key to victory in this matchup. If they can manufacture pressure without having to send the blitz, then they should be able to handle Mayfield and the pass offense with relative ease.

However, to get pressure you want to force Cleveland into passing downs. It will be hard with Nick Chubb, one of the best pure runners in the league, and Kareem Hunt getting the ball on the other side. This is another place in which this front 4 needs to win to give Dallas the edge in victory. If Dallas can slow down the running game, force Cleveland into passing downs, and then generate pressure, then the Cowboys win the game handily.

Over/Under: Under

I think that in a shootout I would take Dak Prescott and that offense over the Browns and Mayfield. However, I actually think that Dallas’ defense can step up a bit in this game and force Mayfield to a turnover or two. It will all come down to how well Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt perform. However, I am taking Dallas with the spread and the under on the points.

Dallas Cowboys 24-13 over the Browns.

Daily Fantasy Picks

Odell Beckham Jr. at $5,800 on DK seems like a smart play against the 31st rank team against WRs in the Dallas Cowboys. Kevin Stefanski may unleash OBJ like he would do with Stefon Diggs back in Minnesota in this game. If you can get that explosive game of multiple TDs, then this can be a GPP winning type of WR. It will all come down to how well Baker plays in the game.

Micahel Gallup at $6,200 on DK to me is the play of the week for the trio of Cowboys WRs. While he is a bit more expensive than Lamb, he should be the one benefiting from Dak’s deep shots down the field. Amari Cooper will have to deal with the elite Denzel Ward, while Gallup gets lined-up against whoever can get healthy by the time Sunday rolls around.

Baker Mayfield could be a decent play at $5,800, this would be an interesting tournament stack with OBJ that will have extremely low ownership. If Dallas starts to run up the score and turn this into a passing game it could lead to some nice garbage time TDs and yards for the pair. However, even if the game is close I think that Stefanski will try and exploit the horrible Dallas pass coverage, rolling out Mayfield and having OBJ run deep routes to try and hit the home run play.
