Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Milwaukee Bucks Player Prop Picks
On Friday (1/26/24), the Milwaukee Bucks host the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second time this week. In this article, find player prop selections for this Eastern Conference matchup. Donovan Mitchell Over 30.5 Points
This might seem like a high bar to clear, but it’s very doable for Donovan Mitchell. Darius Garland remains sidelined with an injury, and in 17 games without Garland this season, Mitchell is averaging 29 points per game. He’s been over 30.5 points in seven of those 17 games, which is just a 41% hit rate, but there are other reasons to like this matchup for Mitchell.
The Bucks have been killed by opposing shooting guards this season, allowing the second-most points per game to the position. Overall, the Bucks rank just 20th in defensive rating, and that was a primary catalyst for the firing of former head coach Adrian Griffin. Doc Rivers is expected to help resolve some of those issues, but it will take time for that to take shape.
In the meantime, I expect Mitchell to cook this defense on Friday. He finished with just 23 points against the Bucks on Wednesday, but he shot an uncharacteristically poor 2-11 from 3-point range. He’s making 34.2% of his threes this season, so we should expect some positive regression in that department in this matchup.
If you want a pivot from this prop, consider Mitchell’s over on 43.5 points, rebounds, and assists. His usage rate has been sky high with Garland sidelined, and his playmaking has been a consistent part of the Cavs’ recent success. Mitchell is averaging 41 points, rebounds, and assists without Garland this season, but this matchup is especially favorable for him.
Khris Middleton Over 26.5 Points, Rebounds, and Assists
On the Bucks’ side, my favorite player to target in this matchup is Khris Middleton. On Wednesday, Middleton finished with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, good for a combined 34 PRAs. He’s now been over this number in four of his last seven games overall.
These teams have faced off three times this season, but one was a complete blowout in a 40-point Bucks win. Middleton’s minutes were restricted due to the game script, but he’s been over on this PRA prop in both of his other games against Cleveland this season.
Middleton has been better at home this season where he averages 33.4 PRAs in games with 30+ minutes. He’s also hit the over on this prop in six of his last ten home games, averaging 28.1 PRAs in that span. At this point in the season, we have a large enough sample size to feel confident in backing these home-road trends.
Overall, Middleton’s progression should be very encouraging for Bucks fans. He started slow this season after offseason knee surgery, but his production has continued to improve, and he’s averaging around 27 PRAs over his last 21 games. That’s right in line with this prop, and I love this spot for him to continue his strong play.
