Matchup Preview
The Rockies took last night’s game 6-5 after the Cubs hit 3 home runs accounting for four runs in the third inning. The two teams are set to match up again tonight at 8:40 PM ET at Coors Field. Jose Quintana will get the nod for the Cubs as Peter Lambert will take the hill for the Rockies.
Quintana is 4-5 on the season with an ERA of 3.77 and 66 Ks. His last start came against the Rockies last week which resulted in a loss for the left-hander. He went 7 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs with 4 strikeouts. In 3 games pitched at Coors Field in his career, he has a SO/W ratio of 4.20 and has allowed a BA of .261 with an ERA of 4.58.
The 22-year-old Lambert got his first major league start June 6th against the Cubs. He went 7.0 innings and had 9 SOs, giving up just 1 run which resulted in a win for the right-hander. 66% of his pitches in the game were strikes.

Rockies Analysis
The Rockies have lost their last two series against the Mets and Cubs. Despite this, they took game one against the Cubs last night. Lambert pitched the Cubs masterfully last week, and today will be the day we see if that was on account of the Cubs having a hard time hitting pitchers they see for the first time or if he’s really that good.
Desmond, Arenado, and Blackmon all had long-balls for the Rockies yesterday, which is where all of their runs except one came from. Desmond and Story have both hit Quintana .500 or above over the course of their career, but Arenado has struggled against the lefty, posting a BA of just .167 in 12 ABs.
Lambert had an ERA of 5.07 in AAA this year. His current ERA of 1.29 is much better, although it’s after just one game. It’s an interesting situation having your first two major league starts against the same team, and we’ll see how that pans out tonight.
Cubs Starting Lineup
1. K. Schwarber , (L), LF
2. K. Bryant , (R), 3B
3. A. Rizzo , (L), 1B
4. J. Baez , (R), SS
5. C. Gonzalez , (L), RF
6. W. Contreras , (R), C
7. J. Heyward , (L), CF
8. A. Russell , (R), 2B
9. Y. Darvish , (R), SP
Cubs Analysis
Yesterday’s game marks the second time the Cubs have homered three times in an inning and still recorded a loss. Darvish quickly gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the same inning. It’s a clear slate today and the Cubs will hope to see a better start from Quintana today.
Baez recorded two hits off of Lambert last week, and Almora and Bryant each recorded one. That was it, though, as Lambert shut the rest of the lineup down. I see the advantage going to the Cubs in this one having seen his stuff just last week, and predict they’ll have a more productive day at the plate.
Quintana’s start last week against the Rockies wasn’t necessarily bad, it just wasn’t enough to get the job done. Any time you give up 3 runs its a gamble as to whether or not your offense will be there to back you up. In 4 games pitched against the Rockies in his career, Quintana has allowed 24 hits through 25 innings. He’s posted an ERA of 4.32 against the team and has issued 5 walks for a SO/W ratio of 5.00.
Rockies vs Cubs Betting Odds
The line is currently set at Cubs -135 Rockies +115 after opening at Cubs -115 Rockies -105. The line is moving to favor the Cubs, which is probably smart on Vegas’ part because I just don’t see Lambert having another great start against the Cubs. I’m taking the Cubs in this one, and if you can, maybe wait it out to see if the line moves back up and you can grab better ML odds. The over/under is currently set at 12 runs, which seems ridiculous, but it is Coors so I’m going to go with the over. There were 6 home runs in yesterday’s matchup.
