Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Chargers Matchup Preview (9/19/21)
Week 1 was a tale of two teams for the Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys lost a heartbreaker to the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the Chargers squeaked out a road win against the Washington Football Team. Los Angeles is relatively healthy and just resting most of its players for the extended season, and Dallas has lost several starters in the last week. It is incredibly unfortunate for the Cowboys because they clearly had some momentum against the Bucs and almost beat them had it not been for more late-game heroics from the greatest of all-time, Tom Brady. Dallas had gotten its defense to play hard and had some chemistry, but with these recent injuries, it could all go down the drain for several weeks. Each team has a roadmap for winning in their second game of the 2021 season, and it will be up to whichever squad executes it better. The Cowboys need to rally together on the defensive side of the ball and put together a similar performance in Week 2 as they did in Week 1. If they can do that, then Dallas certainly has an advantage. Meanwhile, the Chargers will have to execute better offensively and get Austin Ekeler involved more this week if they want to win. We will take a look at all of the catalysts that will affect this game and a prediction for how this bout will go.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Chargers Betting Odds
The Chargers have all the momentum right now, as far as I am concerned. Unfortunately, injuries to several key players will likely keep Dallas from having a chance to win this game. The Cowboys just don’t have depth defensively, and not having two of their best players should prove fatal as the Chargers will put up a plethora of points.
My Predictions: Los Angeles Chargers win 38-28, Chargers cover -2.5 (-122)

Dallas Cowboys Analysis
It is hard to put into words how impactful losing several starters on both sides of the ball can be to a team’s momentum. In Week 1, Dallas looked fabulous, going toe-to-toe with the defending champs and scoring on one of the NFL’s best defenses with relative ease. Unfortunately, Dallas will not be entering this game against the Chargers with the same squad. Randy Gregory, DeMarcus Lawrence, Donovan Wilson, and Michael Gallup will all be unavailable. Additionally, the Cowboys will be missing suspended right tackle La’el Collins, leaving a massive void on that side of the line. Joey Bosa should tear up this offensive line and cause chaos throughout the game. For Dallas to win this game, it will need to protect Dak similarly to how it did against the Bucs, and he will also need to have a huge game. Lastly, the defense will have to continue to play inspired football, despite losing several key defenders. It is not impossible, but there is much more room for error for the Chargers than for the Cowboys.

Los Angeles Chargers Analysis
The Chargers have had different luck than the Cowboys through one week in terms of injuries and results. Los Angeles squeezed out a win against the Football Team and came out with no serious injuries. They looked great defensively and held Washington to merely 16 points. The general sentiment regarding the Chargers should be positive. They won a challenging road game, and Herbert played well, throwing for 337 yards and one touchdown while only giving up one interception. There is still a lot of room for improvement on both sides of the field, though. Honestly, that fact should be viewed as a positive thing. However, for Los Angeles to win against the Cowboys, it will need to get Austin Ekeler the ball more in the open field. He is a big-time playmaker and needs to get touches to keep the defense guessing, at the minimum.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Chargers Daily Fantasy Picks
Cedrick Wilson is a phenomenal DFS pick this week. The loss of Michael Gallup is enormous, and Dallas has to distribute his targets among the rest of the receivers. Wilson has the most to profit from this as Michael Gallup saw seven targets before his injury. This means that he could have seen even more targets. It is hard to imagine Cooper (17 targets) and Lamb (15 targets) getting many more looks than they did last week. Dallas will be a gunslinging team this year with Prescott under center, so Dak throwing 50-60 times against the Chargers is very likely, in my opinion. Ultimately, this leaves many snaps and targets out there for Wilson to grab, especially for his present value.
Dallas has a weakened defense that does not have DeMarcus Lawrence, Randy Gregory, or Donovan Wilson at its disposal. This should alleviate a ton of pressure on Justin Herbert, who will now have ample time in the pocket to make reads. I love Mike Williams this week against an injured Cowboys defense. He had 12 targets last week, which is only one shy of the 13 targets that Keenan Allen saw. It is clear that Herbert trusts Williams, and there is rapport there, so snagging him before his value increases in the coming weeks is imperative. Additionally, I project this matchup as a shoot-out, so both starting quarterbacks should throw over 50 times, leaving plenty of opportunities for Williams to score big.
