Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers 01/07/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Breakdown, Odds, Daily Fantasy, Betting
Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers Preview
Both the Dallas Mavericks (18-21) and Los Angeles Lakers (21-19) are entering tonight’s game in Dallas on losing streaks. The Mavs currently sit at 13th in the Western Conference having lost their last two and three of their last 10.
The Lakers have had to endure some hard times lately without their star small forward LeBron James. They’ve lost their last three and are 3-7 in their last 10 as they hang onto eighth place in the West.
The last time they matched up was on November 30. With James playing, the Lakers had no problems in a 114-103 win over the Mavs. James scored 28 points, while Harrison Barnes had 29 for Dallas.
The one thing Dallas has going for them tonight as that they have been excellent at home, winning 15 of 18 at the American Airlines Center.

Dallas Mavericks Starting Lineup
|SF||Tim Hardaway Jr.|
The Mavs already have two losses to the Lakers this season, so they’ll be looking to reverse their fortunes tonight at home.
Point guard Dennis Smith Jr. struggled in both games, putting up a combined 11 points against the Celtics and 76ers. Harrison Barnes may have also been affected by the Mavs’ back-to-back. He was 2-of-9 from the field and could not knock down one of his three attempts from deep. Instead, it was Luka Doncic, Wesley Matthews and Jalen Brunson who led the Mavs, and rallied for a 30-point fourth quarter, but they just didn’t have the firepower to come back home with a win.
Los Angeles Lakers Starting Lineup
The Lakers have been in disarray since the loss of James, and he won’t be back tonight or in their next game, and he could be gone even longer than that. While the younger players that have stepped into bigger roles had done admirably, it was apparent that James’ clear number two, Kyle Kuzma being out hurt even more.
Last night the Lakers were blown out 86-108 by the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves. After the game, head coach Luke Walton asked for more from Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball. Ingram had 13 points and Ball didn’t score a single point in 23 minutes. In fact, the entire Lakers starting five only managed to put up 34 points.
Lance Stephenson and Michael Beasley played important roles off the bench, but it wasn’t enough to dig themselves out of the hole the starters had dug the team into.
The Lakers have fallen from Western Conference contender to bubble team in the short time James has been out, so Lakers fans await his return anxiously.
Mavericks vs. Lakers Betting Odds
Vegas apparently doesn’t see the Lakers’ fortunes changing without James. Dallas is a -8 point favorite for tonight’s game. The over/under is 223 points.
The Mavericks are 74-69 at home and 55-36 as the favorite. Los Angeles is 37-105 on the road and 61-160 as the underdog.

DraftKings & FanDuel Fantasy Picks
With James out, this matchup doesn’t really feature a stud pick, so we’ll go with two values instead. Luka Doncic ($7.7k) is quickly becoming the most consistent and reliable player on Dallas’ roster. He is projected for 34.95 points on FanDuel tonight.
Kyle Kuzma ($7.1k) is traveling with the team to Dallas. If he plays, FanDuel has him pegged for 33.52 points. If he doesn’t play, Ingram ($6.9k) is a safe bet with a projection of 31.87 points.
