Dallas Mavericks at San Antonio Spurs 4/10/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds
Dallas Mavericks at San Antonio Spurs Preview
Aside from tuning in to catch Dirk Nowitzki’s last NBA game, which happens to be against one of the Dallas Mavericks‘ longest rivals, the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas will be looking to send Nowitzki out in style and perhaps giving the Spurs the loss that could line them up for a first-round matchup with the Golden State Warriors.
The Mavericks are 33-48 on the season, and they have won their last two, including last night’s home game in which Nowitzki finally announced his retirement in front of the home crowd. Dallas is 5-5 in their last 10 games. San Antonio has also won their last two games and are 5-5 in their last 10. The Spurs are currently 47-34, which puts them in a tie for the seventh seed in the West with the Clippers, who they own the tiebreaker over.
The Spurs and Mavs last played on March 12, with DeMar DeRozan leading the Spurs to a 112-105 win. DeRozan had 33 points in the win, and the Mavs were led by rookies Jalen Brunson and Luka Doncic. Brunson had 34 points, and Doncic had seven assists in a losing effort.

Mavericks Analysis
Tonight will be the end of an era as Dirk Nowitzki puts on his number 41 Mavericks jersey for the last time in an NBA game. For over two decades now, the Dallas Mavericks and Nowitzki have been synonymous and he is no doubt the franchise’s best player. Now the franchise will have to get ready for life without Nowitzki.
“The person he is everybody knows and I don’t know if this franchise is ready for post-Dirk,” Mavericks guard J.J. Barea said. “It’s going to be tough without him.”
The Mavericks went on a two-game run and would love to extend it in San Antonio tonight. Last night in their 120-109 win over the Phoenix Suns, Dirk scored 30 points, giving the home crowd one last epic performance. He was one of six Mavs players to score in double figures. Luka Doncic, in a true handing over the baton moment, had a triple-double with 21 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists.
The Mavs had to get past another epic performance as Jamal Crawford scored 51 points off the bench, but they had enough help off the bench to get the win, with Dorian Finney-Smith scoring 15 and Devin Harris adding 14.

Spurs Analysis
The San Antonio Spurs will likely be looking to avoid a second consecutive first-round matchup with the back-to-back defending champion Golden State Warriors. Instead of hoping the Clippers lose against the Jazz, the Spurs have the power to control their own first-round destiny with a win over the Mavericks.
“We’ve dropped a lot of games we should have won throughout the season,” Spurs guard Patty Mills said recently. “But we’ve put in the bank what we’ve learned from the tough games and tough losses and really put it into these last two games, being able to click and get a sense coming together at an important point heading into the playoffs.”
The Spurs won their last two games, a 129-112 win over the Washington Wizards, and a 112-90 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.
LaMarcus Aldridge led the Spurs with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the win over the Cavs. Three players scored 14 points, including DeMar DeRozan, Patty Mills, and Davis Bertans, with the latter two coming off the bench.
