Dallas Mavericks vs. Brooklyn Nets Matchup Preview (3/16/22)

The Dallas Mavericks will continue their east-coast road trip against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night in the Barclays Center. Dallas just got done knocking off the Boston Celtics on their home floor in a defensive blood bath. The Mavs and Celtics have the two best offenses in 2022, but for both teams to score under 100 points is a rarity, especially with Luka Doncic, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum all playing. There is a clear development of a strong culture taking place right before our eyes in Dallas, and it is enjoyable to witness!

Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been on a tear, winning four straight games with several coming by double-digits. This can be largely attributed to the play of Kyrie Irving, who has scored 50 and 60 points in two of his past three games. Irving has been putting on an absolute clinic, which is truly marvelous to watch. Even Kevin Durant has taken a step back during this stretch to allow Irving the opportunity to be great. I cover the outcome I feel is most likely under the betting odds section, so check it out!

Dallas Mavericks vs. Brooklyn Nets Betting Odds

I do not trust the Brooklyn Nets at home. This has been a historic take for me all season long, and just because they are winners of four straight games and showing some signs of life does not take away from the fact that they are an absolute atrocity at home against the spread. I’m going to give you a statistic that you would not believe if it was not all over the internet; In the 2021-22 NBA season, the Nets are 6-25-1 against the spread in Barclays. It is so unfathomably bad that I still find myself staring at it for minutes on end. Regardless, Dallas just beat the Boston Celtics at TD Garden in a defensive-centric matchup, and there is no reason it cannot take that momentum into this matchup. The Nets’ defense is much more vulnerable, so I could see Dallas succeeding behind the arc for all four quarters. Between not having Kyrie Irving or Ben Simmons available and historically being trash covering the spread at home, there is no way I could justify putting my hard-earned money on Brooklyn. I will take the Dallas Mavericks as slight road favorites against the spread.

Dallas Mavericks Analysis

Dallas is a decent option to bet on in any game if it is not playing against the New York Knicks. Seriously. In this case, the Mavs play against the Nets, so I do not hate the idea of betting on them, especially considering how bad the Brooklyn Nets are against the spread at home! Either way, Dallas is fresh off an impressive road win against the Boston Celtics. The Mavs held the C’s to merely 92 points on 37.5% shooting from the floor. Those numbers would be impressive against the likes of the Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, or Detroit Pistons, let alone against one of the hottest teams in basketball. Dallas has really figured something out culturally, and everyone on its roster seems bought in, including the new guys, Davis Bertans and Spencer Dinwiddie. This team will frighten me a bit in the playoffs if they continue playing this well.

Brooklyn Nets Analysis

It’s a home game for the Brooklyn Nets, so we all know what that means: Kyrie Irving will be unavailable to play. The worst part is that Irving is fresh off a 60-point game against the Orlando Magic, so we don’t get to see the encore against the Dallas Mavericks. In this instance, the New York vaccine mandate does not make sense; Kyrie can come to sit courtside at the game but cannot play in the actual game. Regardless, the Nets have been terrific lately when Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant take the floor. They have won recently over the Orlando Magic (by 42 points), Philadelphia 76ers (by 29), New York Knicks, and Charlotte Hornets. Against the Hornets, Irving posted a 50-point game, which means that he has had 50-point and 60-point games in two of his past three. Brooklyn is now winners of four straight and playing some fantastic basketball, and it still does not have Ben Simmons in the lineup, who will instantly improve the offensive flow and defense when he is back. However, the major concern for the Nets is the concept of Irving not being available for half of the Nets’ playoff games. If he could play in all of them, they could beat a No. 1 seed like the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, or Philadelphia 76ers. Without him, though, it will be extremely tough and an uphill battle the whole way.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Brooklyn Nets Daily Fantasy Picks

We have seen Kyrie Irving go for 50 points and 60 points in two of his past three games, but unfortunately, he is not available for this game. Who should we go with from the Brooklyn Nets, then? The answer is right in front of you: Kevin Durant. Durant will be looking to remind people that he is still the best player in the world, and while there should not be much doubt about that across the nation, he wants to ensure everyone is on the same page. Irving is Durant’s friend, even off the floor, so he is absolutely stoked for him; however, Durant has a killer streak in him and will want to carve the Mavs up. I believe the Mavs will win, but I could see a near 50-point night from the best player alive.
