Denver Broncos vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Matchup Preview (9/20/20): Betting Odds, Depth Charts, Live Stream (Watch Online)

The Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers come into week 2 on opposite ends of the spectrum. They both are coming off short rest as they had games on Monday night. The Broncos played a very close game to the Titans but fell just two points short. They had major help from Stephen Gostkowski missing three field goals, making the game look closer. Week 2 looks to be their opportunity to rebound from an opening loss and get back on track to compete in a challenging AFC West. If they fall too far behind, it will be hard to catch up to a team like the Kansas City Chiefs. The Steelers had the opposite ending in which they took down the New York Giants fairly easily. Ben Roethlisberger and JuJu Smith-Schuster got off on the right start and they look to carry it over into week 2 where they will face a much more challenging defense in the Denver Broncos. Denver Broncos Analysis

Denver BroncosI watched the first half of the Broncos and Titans game and at an early glance, it appeared as if the Broncos had it in the bag. Drew Lock and Noah Fant appeared to be on point with each other. Melvin Gordon looked very good out of the backfield and we got a look at what the situation would be like with Gordon and Lindsay. Lindsay’s injury does not appear super serious and he should be back soon and return as the front guy in the backfield as the secondary back. Then the tides quickly turned in the 4th quarter where the Derrick Henry and Corey Davis took the game away. The defense held so solidly the whole game with some help from missed field goals but kept the Titans out of the endzone besides an early touchdown off a fumble. The Steelers will be a tougher matchup as Big Ben and JuJu are a powerful connection. The offense will need to step up and score more despite the Steelers possessing a stronger defense than the Titans. It will take Gordon over-performing and receivers like Jerry Jeudy making big plays that will destroy the Steelers’ confidence. If Courtland Sutton returns, that would be a major boost that could make the difference as they need some experience in their young offense.

Pittsburgh Steelers Analysis

Pittsburgh SteelersJames Conner suffered an unfortunate injury early into the game but luckily, it does not appear to be a high ankle sprain which would keep him out for several weeks. There is a chance he will make a speedy recovery. In the meantime, we saw Benny Snell take over the game and run for over 100 yards. JuJu Smith-Schuster also stepped up after not looking like himself last season. We are getting the JuJu we were used to before. There is a lot of chemistry working together on the Steelers which makes them a scary opponent. The Broncos will be a better defense, but they showed that they can be vulnerable against both the run and pass. Snell and JuJu can be the recreators of what Derrick Henry and Corey Davis did to the Broncos. They have shown they have the capability. They just need to do it and the Steelers come away with their second win.

I can come up with very few reasons to not take the Steelers here. The Broncos are such a new team, relying heavily on their new players like Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. If Courtland Sutton comes back, there is a better case to be made for them but judging of week 1, the Steelers have a clear advantage with or without James Conner.

Ben Roethlisberger
All questions about how Big Ben would look after his season-ending injury last year are gone. He looks better than ever. In an interview after the game, he mentioned how he has nothing else to prove in the NFL and is playing lose and letting his teammates run the game. There is nothing you want more than a quarterback who syncs well with his team and is playing with confidence. Seeing how well he connected with JuJu shows that the future is bright for the Steelers this season. As long as he stays healthy, Big Ben could easily become a top tier quarterback by the end of the season.

JuJu Smith-Schuster
I covered how Big Ben is a great option so it only makes sense to point out how well his favorite target looks. JuJu almost went off the scene last year as he remained highly inconsistent throughout the season. Now that he has his quarterback back, things are looking up for JuJu owners. The two touchdowns will not come every game, but you can expect that more will come in the future. He is by far the best target for Big Ben moving forward and will get a ton of target yet to come. There is no reason to not have confidence in him for week 2.
