This Western Conference bout features one of the best teams in the conference, the Denver Nuggets, and a team trying to change their fortune in the second half of the season to hopefully grind into the playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks.
The Denver Nuggets have had one of the best seasons so far in the NBA. They are 39-18, which is good enough for second in the West and fourth overall. They have been the main surprise in the star-studded Western Conference.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have struggled this season. They are 26-31, which makes them twelfth in the West and twenty-second overall. Even with this sub-par record, the spotlight has still been on Dallas because of their rookie sensation, Luke Doncic.
The Nuggets will be missing three players for this road trip, Gary Harris, Trey Lyles, and Michael Porter Jr.

Nuggets Analysis
The Denver Nuggets have been one of the best teams in the NBA this season, and that is in large part due to the play of Nikola Jokic. Jokic is leading the team in points with 20.4 points per game. He is also leading them in both assists in rebounds, with 7.7 assists and 10.6 rebounds per game.
However, Jokic hasn’t done this alone. Jamal Murray has put together his best season in his young career (18.3 points per game). He has been the perfect complement to the big center.
As a team, the Nuggets are one of the best teams when it comes to sharing the ball. They are averaging 27.6 assists per game, and that’s number two in the nation just behind the Golden State Warriors. Not only have they been good at passing, but they also have been good at keeping the ball. Averaging only 13.4 turnovers per game. Making them number five in that category.
All things considered, this team has been surprisingly great so far. They are looking to continue this good form into the second half of the season.

Mavericks Analysis
The Dallas Mavericks have had a disappointing season so far. Being a sub 500 team isn’t what the front office was hoping for this year, but there has been one overwhelmingly positive part of the season, Luka Doncic. Doncic is having himself an amazing rookie season, averaging a team-leading 20.7 points per game. He is also leading the team in assists and rebounds, with 5.6 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Outside of Doncic’s production, there is a large drop-off. They traded away their number two player in Harrison Barnes, along with their big center Deandre Jordan. They are hoping Tim Hardaway Jr and Justin Jackson will help provide support for Doncic. But, if these trades signaled anything, it’s that they are fully in the midst of a rebuild.
As a team, they have been middle to bottom of the table in most statistical categories. Except for rebounding, where they are eleventh in the league and points allowed per game, where they are tenth, giving up 108.7 points per game.
