If you didn’t get exactly what you wanted once waivers initially ran this week, no need to worry. There are still some of the top streamers still available in over 50% of ESPN leagues. A major key to success in fantasy football is being flexible with your roster and being very active on the waiver wire. Attacking favorable matchups and paying attention to a players’ usage is also key. Injuries and bye weeks have left plenty of fantasy teams with holes in their lineup. Nearly every position has been affected including QB, RB, WR, and TE. Losing key players like Ezekiel Elliot, Amari Cooper, Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott, Mark Andrews, Marquise Brown, and Jason Witten. All players listed below are rostered in under 50% of ESPN fantasy leagues and should be picked up for this week. These recommendations are based on 12-person PPR fantasy leagues. All statistics mentioned can be found at https://www.lineups.com/nfl.
WR AJ Brown (TEN) vs. TB – 15.4% Rostered
This rookie out of Ole Miss has been having a solid first season despite the poor quarterback play this season from Marcus Mariota. Brighter days seem to be ahead for the Titans’ receivers with new starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Brown saw the most targets during week 7, seeing 8 targets, catching 6 for 64 yards. Brown has averaged 16.8 yards per reception so far this season, topping other receivers like Amari Cooper, Courtland Sutton, and Chris Godwin. He is a top priority, this week to pick up and should continue to be rostered. He is facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week who are ranked 31st against opposing wide receivers. Brown is a WR2 this week against the Bucs.
WR Kenny Stills (HOU) vs. OAK – 44.5% Rostered
The former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Kenny Stills joined the Texans after a trade sending both he and tackle Laremy Tunsil in exchange for 2 first round picks. Stills filled in for the injured Will Fuller this past week and saw 94% of the offensive snaps. Seeing 5 targets, catching 4 for 105 yards, averaging an impressive 26.3 yards per reception. Facing the Oakland Raiders this week who rank 29th against opposing fantasy receivers, Stills is a great pick-up if you are in need of another wide receiver this week. Stills should be treated as a WR2 this week against the Raiders.
QB Ryan Tannehill (TEN) vs. TB – 6.0% Rostered
Tannehill made his first start last week against the LA Chargers. He threw for 312 yards on 29 attempts, completing 23 passes and throwing for 2 touchdowns. An underrated fantasy option this week only being rostered in 6.0% of leagues and being started in 3.7%. The Buccaneers have allowed 20.6 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks so far this season. Tannehill has seemingly been an upgrade for this Tennessee offense. He should be treated as a high-end QB2/borderline QB1 going into this week against the Bucs.
TE Josh Hill (NO) vs. ARI – 1.6% Rostered
This veteran tight-end who has been with the Saints his whole career now has the opportunity to make a big impact for this Saints’ offense. Stepping in for the injured Jared Cook, Josh Hill saw 68% of the offensive snaps during week 7. Hill was targeted 3 times, catching all 3 for 43 yards and scoring his first touchdown of the season. Hill averaged 14.3 yards per reception during that matchup, averaging 10.1 yards per reception so far this season. Facing the Arizona Cardinals in week 8 who are ranked dead last against opposing tight-ends. Cook was unable to participate in practice Thursday, giving way for Hill to start against the worst defense against tight-ends. The lack of consistent receivers for Bridgewater/Brees to throw to in this offense, besides Thomas and Kamara, helps Hill’s case even more. If Cook is inactive during week 8, Hill should be picked up and started against this Cardinals defense.
RB Darrel Henderson (LAR) vs. CIN – 23.0% Rostered
The available running-backs on the waiver wire is scarce however, Henderson has the potential to be the one to be a startable fantasy option. Henderson saw 11 carries and 1 reception against the Atlanta Falcons during the Rams’ week 7 win. The Rams won handedly against the Falcons, winning 37-10. Going up against the Bengals this week, who rank 32nd against opposing fantasy running-backs, this could be another blowout win by the Rams. The spread for this game is CIN +13, meaning the Rams are predicted to outscore the Bengals by 13 points. In this likely case Henderson, who is the current backup to Gurley after Brown was injured in week 6, will most likely be seeing a similar carry count as he did against the Falcons. The Falcons have a much better run defense compared to the Bengals ranking 13th while the Bengals are ranked 32nd against opposing running-backs. Gurley has been seeing a limited carry count all season having the backup help him carry the workload in every game. If you are looking for a flex option, Henderson should be in consideration especially in deeper leagues.
WR Auden Tate (CIN) vs. LAR – 34.4% Rostered
Tate has truly made a name for himself within the Bengals’ organization. Becoming a favorite target for Andy Dalton, seeing up to 31% of the target share from Dalton this season. Tate is slated as the WR2 for the Bengals until A.J. Green makes his expected return after their bye in week 9. Facing the LA Rams in week 8, the Bengals passing game will be up against it with newly acquired Rams’ cornerback Jalen Ramsey joining their defense. Ramsey is expected to shadow Boyd, leaving Tate to see a much more favorable matchup against Troy Hill. The Bengals have seen strong defenses before such as the 49ers in week 2, Bills in week 3, Steelers in week 4, and the Jaguars in week 7. Tate was still a viable fantasy option during all of those tough matchups, besides week 2 when he only saw 5% of the snap count. Tate should be rostered this week and is a viable flex option against the Rams this week.
