Golden State Warriors at New Orleans Pelicans Preview
As the New Orleans Pelicans host the Golden State Warriors in NOLA tonight, both teams are looking for their first wins of the 2019-20 NBA season. Golden State is 0-2 this season, while the Pelicans are 0-3.
New Orleans is playing without prized rookie Zion Williamson, and have several other injuries, but the injury bug has bitten Golden State even harder with injuries to Klay Thompson, Willie Cauley-Stein and Kevon Looney.
To avoid going 0-4m the Pelicans will need to either limit Stephen Curry or keep other players wrapped up as OKC did recently. The Warriors are still figuring a lot out with their new rotation, and they’ll have a young, hungry team while they are on the second game of a back-to-back.

Warriors Analysis
The Warriors are looking for answers after not just losing their first two games, but being blown out in those games. Against the Oklahoma City Thunder yesterday, they were down by as much as 42 points.
Head coach Steve Kerr says the transition of adding several new players leaves the Warriors trying to find an identity, especially with their injuries and the loss of Kevin Durant over the offseason.
“We don’t have a sense yet of who we are,” Kerr said. “We’re playing a lot of young guys, and we’re trying to develop an identity. It doesn’t happen overnight. We’ll keep working and keep trying to get better. It’s going to take a lot of work and a lot of effort.”
The Warriors will really need their vets, specifically Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, to get their new pieces integrated. Aside from the loss of Durant and injuries, the Warriors lost some leadership with the departure of Andre Iguodala and Shawn Livingston’s retirement.
Three of Golden State’s new starters – D’Angelo Russell, Marquese Chriss, and Glenn Robinson III, combined for just 19 points against OKC. Those three players will have to do more to help Steph and Draymond if they want to leave New Orleans with their first victory.

New Orleans Pelicans Starting Lineup
PG: Lonzo Ball

SF: Jrue Holiday
PF: Brandon Ingram

Pelicans Analysis
The Pelicans have been close in their three losses so far this season and lost by just three points against the Houston Rockets even with James Harden and Russell Westbrook filling up the stat sheet.
The potential is definitely there and the Pelicans have shown that they can also get it done on offense. Head coach Alvin Gentry noted the positives he’s taken away.
“Everything is new, but I think if we can continue to play with this effort, things will turn,” Gentry said. “Obviously we’d like to have a win or two or three, but we are looking at the big picture, and I think we will be OK down the road.”
If Williamson comes back based on the timeline that has been given, which seems early, he adds a different dimension to the team. For now, the Pelicans have been led by forward Brandon Ingram, who had 35 points and 15 rebounds against the Rockets.

Key Player Matchups
Brandon Ingram vs. Draymond Green
Ingram has been a bright spot for the Pelicans and he’s showing that he’s more than just potential unrealized, averaging over 27 points per game. Draymond Green, one of the leagues premier defenders, will look to slow down the young forward and make him work. Green hasn’t done much offensively, but if he can limit Ingram, it could go a long way to securing the Warriors’ first win.
Lonzo Ball vs. Stephen Curry
This is an easy nod in Curry’s favor. He’s just on a different level than Ball currently, but whereas sometimes Curry is hidden on defensive assignments that aren’t as much a threat offensively, Ball will challenge him to defend him. Curry hasn’t had a truly breakout Steph game just yet, but he could do so tonight.
Daily Fantasy
Stephen Curry and Brandon Ingram are stud picks for tonight’s matchup in the Crescent City. Curry is currently available for $9.5k on FanDuel. He is projected for a big night on the road against the Pelicans with 44.79 points. Somehow, Ingram is still available for just $7.5k, make him a value pick as well with a projection of 31.52 points.
Draymond Green is not putting up a ton of points, but he is a great multi-cat fantasy player, and at $7.1k, he’ll be a value pick expected to add 33.15 fantasy points to your lineup.
