Golden State Warriors at Charlotte Hornets Preview

A little over a week after Kevin Durant won the All-Star game MVP, he and the Golden State Warriors return to Charlotte in hopes of getting back in the win column. Both teams enter tonight’s game having lost their most recent game.

The Warriors are currently in the top spot in the Western Conference but have just a one-game lead over the Denver Nuggets. They are 42-17 on the season and 7-3 in their last 10. The Hornets, meanwhile, are just hanging onto the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 28-31 record. They retain a one-game lead over the Orlando Magic and are 4-6 in their last 10 games.

The interconference matchup will be the first of the season for the Warriors and Hornets. They last played in December of last season, with the Hornets winning 111-100. They were led in the game by Dwight Howard, who is now with the Washington Wizards. He finished with 29 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in a rare performance, while Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 27 points.

Warriors Analysis

Golden State WarriorsWhile several members of the Golden State Warriors may have shined during All-Star weekend in Charlotte, the Warriors as a whole will have to get over a rough patch and try to look as good as a team in the Queen City tonight.

They just eked out a win over the Sacramento Kings and the lost to the Houston Rockets on Saturday 112-118.

In the game, the Rockets jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Perhaps more impressive is that the Rockets did it without James Harden as PJ Tucker stepped up with a huge 18-point game, but that’s gotta be a concern for Golden State.

“We can’t ever expect anything to be easy. It’s always going to be difficult,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said recently.

While the loss doesnt look great for Golden State, they haven’t loss consecutive games in two months and hope to extend that streak tonight.

Hornets Analysis

Charlotte HornetsThe Charlotte Hornets nearly started their post All Star break schedule with consecutive wins. They beat the Washington Wizards, and although they battled back and made a late rally against the Brooklyn Nets, a Kemba Walker three pointer did not fall.

The Hornets struggled defending D’Angelo Russell, who went off for 40 points and seven assists.

Kemba Walker’s 32 point effort was nearly enough, but it fell just short. Tony Parker had yet another in a series of turn-back-the-clock performances as he had 21 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Hornets.

Charlotte will need to continue to get solid play out of their guard corps as they take on Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson tonight.
