Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers Preview
Tonight, at Staples Center, the Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Golden State Warriors. Both teams last played Tuesday night and finished with different outcomes. Golden State beat the Denver Nuggets 116-102 at Oracle in what was a showdown of the top two teams in the Western Conference. It marked their second straight win as they’ve won four of their last five games. Entering tonight, Golden State owns the top spot in the Western Conference by two games over Denver.
On the other hand, the Lakers lost 119-103 in Oklahoma City and suffered their second loss in their last six games. They’re 10th in the Western Conference and have been eliminated from playoff contention this season, and on Saturday afternoon they announced they would be shutting LeBron James down for the rest of the season.
Golden State has beaten the Lakers in nine of their last 10 matchups and have taken two of three so far this season. Including a 115-101 home win back on February 2.

Against Oklahoma City, the Lakers trailed by four at the half but got outscored 35-23 in the third quarter to go down 16. They got no closer than five in the fourth quarter which lead to their loss. The Lakers shot 47.6 percent from the field, including 16 of 39 from three-point range, but allowed 21 turnovers. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the Lakers with 23 points in the loss.
They’ve gone 4-6 in their last 10 games but clearly aren’t fully engaged. The Lakers are tied for 15th in scoring offense and 18th in three-point shooting. They’re also tied for 10th in field goal percentage defense and are 15th in scoring defense in that stretch. Kyle Kuzma has added 18.8 points and put up 3.9 boards during that 10-game stretch, while Caldwell-Pope has put up 18.9 points a night. The Lakers lost Brandon Ingram for the season due to deep venous thrombosis in his shoulder. Lonzo Ball has also been shut down for the season due to an ankle.
