Golden State Warriors vs. Atlanta Hawks Matchup Preview (3/25/22)

On Friday night, Jordan Poole and company will try to bounce the Atlanta Hawks off their home floor. Atlanta has been streaky this season, at best, and just lost a brutal road game to the Detroit Pistons, one of the worst teams in the NBA. Trae Young has been phenomenal all season and has posted three 45+ point games just this month; however, it is clear that the Hawks still don’t have the necessary defensive discipline for a title run. Golden State does not look anything like the team it did at the beginning of the season. This team has regressed on both sides of the floor throughout the season, despite having two-way legend Klay Thompson back from injury. Below, I cover this matchup between the Warriors and Hawks in more detail, so check out the betting odds and team analysis sections to see who I’m leaning towards!

Golden State Warriors vs. Atlanta Hawks Betting Odds

I must admit that while I am fed up with betting on the Golden State Warriors against the spread this season, I still have to ride with them in this matchup. Atlanta is a team that is really solid when it is hitting shots but struggles with effort on the defensive end when it is not. That is the type of team that Golden State can usually handle. My backing of the Warriors ATS is contingent on whether or not Klay Thompson and Draymond Green play in the game. If they are all healthy and ready to go, then I will stand by the Warriors against the spread. Otherwise, I may just pass on the populars in this game.

Golden State Warriors Analysis

After an inexplicably strong start to the 2021-22 NBA season, the Warriors have significantly slumped lately. Everyone thought that once Klay Thompson returned from several injuries that the Golden State Warriors would be even more difficult to beat than they already were. It turns out that was not the case at all. Then, Draymond Green suffered an injury and the Warriors again fell into a slump. Everyone was waiting for Green to return as he surely was the reason that Golden State began to struggle on both ends of the floor. Again, his absence was not the only issue with this team and his return did not fix everything. If Golden State wants to win a championship this season, it will need Steph Curry to play at an MVP level, Draymond Green to play at a DPOY level, and the rest of the team to play much better than they are now.

Atlanta Hawks Starting Lineup

PG: Trae Young
SG: Kevin Huerter
SF: De’Andre Hunter
PF: Danilo Gallinari
C: Clint Capela

Atlanta Hawks Analysis

It is incredibly difficult for me to have any faith in the Atlanta Hawks after their performance against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. The Pistons dusted the Hawks by 21 points, and while the game was on the road, it is still an unacceptable loss for them. Atlanta’s style of play makes it a tough team to play when it is on fire. However, when the Hawks are not hitting shots on the offensive end, they play with zero motivation on the defensive end, making them liable to losses to inferior squads. Much like the Knicks, it is hard to consider this season as anything other than a massive regression and a huge failure. Still, Trae Young has been an offensive force, averaging just shy of 30 points and ten assists per game. Anytime Young is on the floor, the Hawks have a chance to win, even if the postseason is a bit of a stretch.

Golden State Warriors vs. Atlanta Hawks Daily Fantasy Picks

There are few players in the NBA hotter than Warriors guard, Jordan Poole right now. Poole has put together an impressive season as Steph Curry’s partner in crime, but he has really come into his own in the past few weeks. On the season, Poole has averaged roughly 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds per game on a 46/36/92 shooting split. There is nothing wrong with those numbers at all, especially for a player who had been somewhat of a second fiddle to Steph Curry, and, at times, Andrew Wiggins. Recently, Poole has solidified himself as heir apparent to Curry, though, posting 25 points, five assists, and three rebounds in the past ten games. The most incredible aspect of this hot streak has been that he has merely started in six of those ten games. Poole is still getting a sufficient amount of minutes per game, but the fact he is posting these numbers off the bench is mighty impressive! Poole is an extremely impressive scorer and improving every single game. He should have a field day against this Hawks team that can’t find any semblance of defensive consistency.

Are you willing to play DFS lineup roulette? If the answer to that question is that you are indeed willing to do so, then you may want to consider plugging Trae Young in your lineup. Young has been wildly inconsistent recently, specifically in his past six games, posting three 45+ point games, but also one nine-point and two 21-point outings. The amazing thing about Young’s offensive production is that he can put up massive point totals, but also dish out double-digit assists. This season, Young has averaged a massive 9.5 assists per game in addition to his near 30 points per game, making him one of the more valuable players in DFS.
