Green Bay Packers Vs. Las Vegas Raiders Prediction & Best Bet

The Packers are coming off a 34-20 loss to the Lions on Thursday Night Football where they were thoroughly dominated, but this game offers a nice bounceback opportunity for Jordan Love and this offense. The Raiders have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL this season as they rank bottom five in DVOA and EPA allowed through the air.

Love has had accuracy issues – he’s dead last among qualified quarterbacks in adjusted completion percentage. However, head coach Matt LaFleur has found a way to help him be effective as he’s 10th in adjusted EPA per play. Much of it has come on big plays as Love leads the NFL in average air yards per attempt.

The Raiders’ secondary was already a problem spot, and now their top corner Nate Hobbs, who’s out with an ankle injury. Fellow starters Jakorian Bennett and Marcus Epps are also listed as questionable. Meanwhile, the Packers’ offense is getting healthier with Christian Watson and Aaron Jones trending towards full health.

Green Bay’s biggest weakness is against the run – they’re 27th in run defense EPA and 12th against the pass. However, I’m not sold that the Raiders can take full advantage. Josh Jacobs doesn’t look quite right, and whatever the reason may be, the Raiders rank dead last in EPA when running the ball. Perhaps this will be his breakout game, but I’m not confident.

Jimmy Garoppolo is back for the Raiders after missing last week’s game with a concussion, but top target Davante Adams is dealing with a shoulder injury. I would be shocked if he didn’t suit up in primetime against his former team, but he might not be at full strength. Meanwhile, cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes are expected to return for the Packers this week.

Ultimately, I believe the Packers’ big home loss to the Lions is buying us some value on this line. I see the Packers as a clear tier ahead of the Packers this season. I also trust LaFleur much more than Josh McDaniels to make the right late game decisions to help his team come out of Las Vegas with a win.

Green Bay Packers Vs. Las Vegas Raiders Prediction & Best Bet: Packers +2

Green Bay Packers Vs. Las Vegas Raiders Betting Odds

The odds for this game have bounced around throughout the week due to uncertainty surrounding the injury status of several key players. Once Jimmy Garoppolo cleared concussion protocol, we saw it move to the Raiders -2.5. There was some buyback after that point, though, down to the current consensus number of 2. Keep an eye on injury reports throughout the day as they will impact the closing number.

Green Bay Packers Vs. Las Vegas Raiders Key Injuries

The Packers are getting healthier heading into this Monday Night Football game. Running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Christian Watson are trending towards full health while cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes are expected to make their returns.

The Raiders aren’t as fortunate. Top cornerback Nate Hobbs is out with an ankle injury while fellow defensive backs Jakorian Bennett and Marcus Epps are listed as questionable. Wide receiver Davante Adams is also listed as questionable with a shoulder injury.

Green Bay Packers Vs. Las Vegas Raiders Key Matchups

Let’s take a look at some of the key matchups that will help determine the winner of this exciting Monday Night Football game.

Christian Watson Vs. Raiders Secondary

A 2022 second-round pick, Christian Watson showed a lot of promise last season, but he missed the first three games this year with a hamstring injury. He returned last week, but played in just a part-time role as he ran 20 routes and was targeted just four times. Watson did reach the end zone, however.

Watson is a dangerous deep threat who was tied for fifth in the NFL last season in average air yards per reception (13.98) per TruMedia. That plays right into the hands of Jordan Love, who leads the NFL with an average depth of target (aDOT) of 10.5 yards. If Watson is healthy, and it sounds like he’s close, he should feast in this offense.

This matchup is primed for a breakout showing from Watson, as well. The Raiders have allowed the most touchdowns in the NFL to wide receivers and have been burned repeatedly by downfield targets. Josh Jacobs Vs. Packers Run Defense

Will the real Josh Jacobs please stand up? After leading the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards and a whopping 90 missed tackles forced last season, Jacobs has been quiet to start the current campaign – he has just 166 rushing yards through four games and has seen his YPC clip drop from 4.9 to 2.7.

If there was ever a time for him to break out of this slump, it would be against a Packers run defense ranked 27th in EPA allowed. Green Bay is slated to be without former All Pro linebacker De’Vondre Campbell for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury, further hurting their struggling run defense.
