Memphis Grizzlies vs. New Orleans Pelicans Player Prop Picks
Ja Morant is back in the lineup after a 25-game suspension for Memphis, so check out why shooting guard Desmond Bane will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of his return below for our Memphis Grizzlies vs. New Orleans Pelicans player prop picks!
Desmond Bane Over 3.5 Threes (+110)
Despite the Grizzlies’ morbid 6-19 record, Desmond Bane has assembled an All-Star-caliber season, averaging 24.6 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game on a 47/38/85 shooting split. And that is with an extraordinarily high amount of defensive focus on him night in and night out, which will be slightly alleviated starting tonight with Ja Morant back in the lineup.
Bane has hit four or more three-pointers in four of his past five games, displaying his shooting prowess from deep time and time again. In that stretch, Bane shot 43.2% from behind the arc and averaged nine three-point attempts per game.
There might be a slight adjustment for Bane with Morant returning, as he will be playing a bit more off-ball than usual, but that also means nothing but good things for one of the best catch-and-shoot three-point shooters in the NBA. With Memphis’ lack of depth and offense outside of Morant, Bane, and Jackson Jr., we don’t expect Bane’s volume to drop at all.
Additionally, expect the Grizzlies to hedge Bane and Morant’s minutes so that Bane will have some on-ball reps while Morant rests. This balance between on-ball and off-ball play will be an excellent thing for Bane in the long term.
Lastly, Bane has a solid matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans, who allow the fifth-highest percentage of wide-open threes to opponents in the NBA. While they have gotten lucky at times with opponents missing clean looks from deep, Bane will not miss those, especially if some of them come from inside-out passes from a Morant drive.
C.J. McCollum Over 19.5 Points (-115) & Over 2.5 Threes (-140)
Amongst the Grizzlies’ fanbase, C.J. McCollum has become known (with only a select few other players) as a “Grizz-killer”; he always puts his best games together against Memphis. The statistics back it up, too, as he has averaged 25.1 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game on over 48% shooting from the field and 45% from behind the arc in his past ten games versus Memphis.
Further, McCollum has hit the Over on this line (19.5) in eight of his past ten games against Memphis, with the only two games he fell short being double-digit losses. Well, I doubt we will have to worry about that with how the Grizzlies have played this season. Even Ja Morant might not be able to save this team.
As for the Grizzlies’ defense, they have been abysmal, allowing opponents to shoot 39.2% from behind the arc. Yikes. Memphis also allows the fifth-most three-pointers made to opposing point guards.
McCollum has been playing well in general, too, hitting the Over on this line in three of his past four games; he only fell one point short in the sole game in which he missed the Over. Additionally, C.J. has hit the Over on this three-point prop line in all four of those games. It is easy to back a player who has been hot recently and who has also consistently destroyed the opponent he is facing now.
