Atlanta Hawks Vs. Washington Wizards: Predictions, Starting Lineups (12/31/23)
After blowing an 18-point halftime lead to the Sacramento Kings in their last game, the Atlanta Hawks will look to rebound on the road against one of the worst teams in the league: Washington. Our Atlanta Hawks vs. Washington Wizards predictions, game preview, and best bets are all featured below, including a detailed breakdown of matchups and advantages.
Atlanta Hawks Vs. Washington Wizards Prediction
Atlanta is amidst a four-game losing streak, which was most recently extended because it blew a massive 18-point lead in the second half. The Hawks have lost to Miami, Memphis, Chicago, and Sacramento in their past four games while boasting the sixth-worst net rating in the league; they have the worst field goal percentage and the sixth-worst three-point percentage in that stretch.
Meanwhile, Washington is fresh off a home win against the Brooklyn Nets, giving it its sixth win of the 2023-24 regular season. The Wizards got great efforts from Tyus Jones (12 points, six assists, and four rebounds), Kyle Kuzma (26 points and eight rebounds), and Deni Avdija (21 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists); however, Jordan Poole had an abysmal game, posting merely five points in 25 minutes.
While this is a bad matchup for the Wizards due to Clint Capela’s rebounding prowess (he has the most offensive rebounds this season of any player in the NBA), laying seven points for Atlanta, a team on a four-game skid, feels like a bit much even if it is playing against Washington.
The Hawks have not been able to throw the ball into the ocean during their losing streak, and it is challenging to see them improving in not only that but also their spread-covering abilities (7-24 ATS), or lack thereof. Atlanta should win but look for the Wizards to keep the game somewhat close.
Of course, this is all contingent on Tyus Jones’ availability; if he cannot play, we are off of this game’s popular bets completely. He is too important to the starting unit of this team.
