Indianpolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts Analysis

The Colts are coming off a dominant win against the Minnesota Vikings, who looked horrible offensively and defeated by the Colts’ defense. After being upset by the Jaguars in week one, the Colts’ may be starting to find their rhythm as a new team behind new quarterback Philip Rivers. The Colts are looking to regain their winning record at home versus the New York Jets in week three.

Philip Rivers has been getting adjusted to his new team and new offense on the Colts. Luckily, he has one of the best offensive lines and a solid wide receiver core to help him out. Last week against the Vikings, he threw for a quieter 214 yards and one touchdown while also throwing an interception. Now, with Paris Campbell being placed on IR and Jack Doyle remaining questionable for week three, he will need to figure out a way to succeed in the pass game against a solid Jets’ rush defense that may make the Colts resort to passing.

After starting running back Marlon Mack tore his Achilles in week one against the Jaguars, rookie running back Jonathan Taylor has been making use of his increase of touches in the backfield. Against the Vikings solid defense, he rushed 26 times for 101 yards and added one touchdown. He will be key for the Colts to make use of the added injuries to their wide receiver core.

The Colts defense had a phenomenal game last week aside from the Vikings’ clear offensive struggles caused by their own mistakes. They held the Vikings to 12 first downs and 175 total yards for the game. They also had three sacks and three interceptions throughout the game. The Jets’ offense has not looked well this season, giving the Colts’ defense another opportunity to shine on the field.

New York Jets

New York Jets Analysis

The New York Jets have played the outstanding Buffalo Bills and the reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. They have had a tough start, but the Indianapolis Colts are a beatable team that they will look to upset in week three. The Jets will not be playing at home and they will need to make up for a large amount of injuries they have sustained on both sides of the ball.

Sam Darnold has had some impressive moments, like escaping the pocket late last game and throwing across his body for a touchdown to Braxton Berrios. However, overall he and the Jets have not been able to produce enough on offense. The Jets have only scored 30 points on offense this season through two weeks. Last week, Darnold threw for only 179 yards and one touchdown late in the game. Now, with there being a solid chance he will not have Breshad Perriman, Chris Hogan, Jamison Crowder, and Leveon Bell for week three, Darnold will need to figure out a way to get the offense going for the Jets in week three.

As I mentioned before, the loss of Leveon Bell being placed on IR will pose a large challenge for the Jets. Frank Gore rushed 21 times last week, but for only a small 63 yards. His three yards per-carry will not be able to get the Jets anywhere on offense. Plus, the injuries to the starting wide receivers will be a real struggle for the Jets to get anything done on offense.

Last week, the Jets defense allowed 21 points in the first half to the 49er offense. The 49ers were able to pass and run the ball as they pleased after consistently stopping the Jets from getting many first downs in the first half. Not to mention, after the 49ers lost Mostert, Garrapolo, and Bosa, the Jets still allowed Nick Mullens to produce on offense. While the Jets defense only allowed 10 points in the second half to a banged-up 49er team, they will need to keep their offense on the field if they want a chance to win in week three.

WR3: Jamison Crowder

Betting Corner Colts -10.5

Spread: Colts -10.5
Moneyline: Colts -550
Over/Under: 44.5
While the spread may seem wildly absurd for giving the average Indianapolis Colts 10.5 points to cover, it will certainly be a challenge for the Jets to produce any points on offense with the large number of injuries they have on offense. Even with some of the injuries inherited by the Colts, they should be able to attack the Jets’ offense with plenty of time with the ball while the defense stops them. I like the spread and money line for the Colts this week to be good bets.

With the over/under being set at 44.5, I like the under because I think the Colts will take over the game early and coast in the second half while being able to contain the Jets. Even though the Colts have been scoring a healthy amount of points on offense, the Jets have hardly produced any points while they are healthy. Now with all of their injuries on offense, I cannot see them scoring very much in week three.

Daily Fantasy Picks

Indianapolis Colts
Jonathan Taylor
Jonathan Taylor received a surprising 26 carries last week after all fantasy owners anticipated Nyheim Hines to haul in some of the carries as well. Taylor is a dominant running back who is starting to become a small part of the passing game. Because of his talent and ability to get touches in the backfield, he is a solid RB2 and daily fantasy pick up for week three.

T.Y Hilton
Due to the uncertainty of play in week three from Jack Doyle and a doubtful possibility for Paris Campbell, T.Y Hilton should definitely see more targets from Philip Rivers. He would be a solid WR3/flex spot in week three against the Jets and a low-value daily fantasy play if he is taken with a lower value.

Frank Gore
Frank Gore seems to be the replacement work horse for the Jets while Leveon Bell is out. I am not big on Gore, but if you are in dire need of a waiver wire running back or a flex play, Gore could be a solid fill position for the week at running back.
