Iowa vs Purdue: Betting Odds, Picks, and Predictions (3/13/22)

Iowa vs Purdue Betting Odds

Iowa’s offense has been on a tear.

The Hawkeyes scored 1.53 points per possession against Northwestern, 1.24 points per possession against Rutgers, and 1.19 points per possession against Indiana.

How do you stop that?

Purdue’s plan is to out-score them.

And that’s why this Tournament Championship will be so entertaining. Which electric offense will out-score the other?

Iowa Hawkeyes Odds

This year’s Hawkeyes might be more dangerous than last year’s. Iowa scored 112 points against Northwestern – a Big Ten tournament record, and then 84 against Illinois.

Everything runs through the Murray bros., who combined to average over 24 points and 13 rebounds last season. The brothers are tall wings that can drive, kick, and shoot. It’s almost impossible to stop Kris, and it’s actually impossible to stop Keegan.

But the Hawkeyes are more than just the Murray Brothers. Jordan Bohannon was the facilitator of the offense that finished third nationally in offensive turnover rate.

The offense fills itself out, but it’s the offense that worries Hawkeye backers. Iowa finished eighth in the America East effective field goal percentage allowed and dead last in defensive rebounding rate.

Purdue Boilermakers

Purdue has a similarly unstoppable offense.

All-American Jaden Ivey can run a two-man set with either Zach Edey or Trevion Williams, and both are unstoppable. Meanwhile, Sasha Stefanovic sat in the corner waiting for 3-point shots and shot 40% from 3 while averaging 1.169 PPP in spot-up situations.

Or, Purdue better be targeting Stefanovic. The Boilermakers are 34-6 straight up when Stefanovic scores in double digits.

I do think Purdue has the advantage on the interior The Murray brothers are not a good matchup for Williams and Edey, and those two should dominate this matchup.

Iowa vs Purdue Prediction and Pick

These two are about to play an up-tempo, run-and-gun type of game.

That style of play favors Purdue.

The two-man duo of Zach Edey and Trevion Williams should neutralize Kris and Keegan Murray, as long as they keep up in transition.

Meanwhile, it’ll be hard for Xavier Johnson and Rob Phinisiee to run with Eric Hunter and Jaden Ivey.

Purdue is a flawed team on the defensive end. But Iowa doesn’t have the type of offense to exploit that.

I’ll play Purdue up to -3.
