LA Clippers vs. Dallas Mavericks Preview
This is certainly one of the more exciting 7-2 matchups over the last few playoffs and the series is split 1-1 as we head into Game 3. The Clippers are five-point favorites and this game has the highest total (231.5) on the slate. Both Kawhi Leonard and Luka Doncic continue to lead their teams and the secondary options on both teams will have to be the x-factor in game three. There are no major injury concerns, although Kristaps Porzingis has been playing through a bruised heel. Patrick Beverley is doubtful and this will lead to more minutes for Reggie Jackson and Lou Williams. Both games have been relatively close although the Clippers were able to handle Game 1 more comfortably once Porzingis was ejected. This series is likely headed for six or even seven games, but a 2-1 series lead is big for both teams.

LA Clippers Starting Lineup
The Clippers struggled to stop Dallas in Game 2 and were not able to force the turnovers Doncic had in Game 1. They shot poorly from three, and Paul George was the main culprit going 2-10 from the three. Kawhi Leonard and Lou Williams were the only two players over 15 points. The surprising part about the first two games is that a lot of people believed this was a poor matchup for Dallas given the backcourt defense. However, Jackson playing 26 minutes and Lou Williams playing 32, neither are the defenders that Pat Beverley is and he is doubtful tonight. Leonard being tasked against Doncic still leaves plenty of shooters around for Dallas, and Doncic has done a great job finding them. This will be an issue until Beverely returns or George steps up his play.
Dallas Mavericks Starting Lineup
Dallas had one of the best offenses of all-time in 2020 and despite facing the Clippers in round one, they have been able to continue to put up the big numbers. Slowing down the Clippers has been a bit more of an issue, even though Paul George has struggled mostly throughout the first two games. Luka Doncic was able to clean up his turnovers after struggling in Game 1 with them. It was the Clippers who turned the ball over 15 times and Dallas was able to create 19 points off turnovers. Dallas managed to win in a key area as they out-rebounded the Clippers and also shot 44% from three. Boban and Seth Curry both gave quality minutes off the bench, as Curry had 15 points in 26 minutes and was +30. Dallas will live and die with the bench shooting but against Lou Williams and Reggie Jackson, it will be a plus for the Dallas players against them.
Clippers vs Mavericks Fantasy Basketball Angle
There are two clear top plays from this game with Luka Doncic and Kawhi Leonard. Doncic has averaged over 50 fantasy points in five meetings with the Clippers. Leonard has averaged over 50 fantasy points as well. Both have crushed in the first two games and lead their teams in usage. Lou Williams is too cheap for a guy who is going to play 30 minutes and has the ball in his hands as often as he does. They need his scoring to keep up with Dallas and Beverley being out gives him plenty of openings to be the point guard. Big men have struggled in this series and more so the values. Porzingis has not been good in terms of his price for fantasy and is a tough guy to plugin due to the other options. However, he is someone to work in if you are building multiple lineups.
Clippers vs Mavericks Betting Odds
Clippers Odds: -210
Mavericks Odds: +175
Spread: LAC -5
The Clippers are five-point favorites which isn’t a big surprise, but I expect the Mavericks to cover. While the Clippers have won seven of the last ten games and two of the last three, the average point differential has been fou points. Because the over/under is so high for these games, they have been about split over the last ten games but the over has been there in six of the last eight games and five of the last seven for Dallas.
