Los Angeles Clippers at Memphis Grizzlies 2/22/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds

Los Angeles Clippers at Memphis Grizzlies Preview

The Memphis Grizzlies have had a rough season, and things aren’t getting any easier. They traded center Marc Gasol for a package including Jonas Valanciunas and they’ve had to deal with several injuries, including many tonight as they host a Los Angeles Clippers team that is now home to former Grizzlies players who were also traded at the deadline.

The Grizzlies are currently 14th in the Western Conference with a 23-36  record. They lost two consecutive games prior to the all-star break and are 4-6 in their last ten. The Clippers are still in the playoff picture as they hang on to the eighth spot in the West, but after trading away several players with an eye towards rebuilding through 2019 free agency, they could easily slip out of contention. They are 32-27 on the season, won their most recent game and are 5-5 in their last 10.

In their last matchup on December 5, the Clippers took the 96-86 win over the Clippers. They were led in scoring by Mike Conley, and the Clippers were led by Boban Marjanovic and Tobias Harris, who are now in Philadelphia.

Clippers Analysis

Los Angeles ClippersPrior to the All-Star break, the Clippers beat the Phoenix Suns handily 134-107. With how quickly and how much the Clippers roster has changed, the win was an important one as all of the new pieces look to get on the same page.

Two of the constants on the Clippers all season have been Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell, and they led the Clippers in the win off the bench with 30 points and 19 points apiece. Danilo Gallinari was also responsible for some of the Clippers’ early-season success. He scored 20 points and has had a season that likely made it very hard for all-star voters to exclude him from the roster.

JaMychal Green and Garrett Temple return to Memphis tonight, so head coach Doc Rivers has likely been looking to both players as he has game planned for Memphis.

The rest of the season will likely be about building chemistry for this roster overhaul, but there have been some solid signs in the win against Phoenix and a surprise win over Boston.

Grizzlies Analysis

Memphis GrizzliesThe Grizzlies are clearly building around Jaren Jackson Jr. and Mike Conley and they made several moves at the deadline as well, acquiring Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, C.J. Miles, and Avery Bradley.

Bradley should provide some scoring help, and the Grizzlies will likely need it as they are without Valanciunas and Kyle Anderson, and Jackson is questionable, but the Grizzlies could be getting Chandler Parsons back.

In their last game, the Grizzlies lost badly to the lowly Chicago Bulls (14-44) 110-122. Six Grizzlies players scored in double figures, but they struggled to defend new Bull Otto Porter, who went off for 37 points.

Bradley led his new team with 15 points and five rebounds. Mike Conley, Jackson, Wright, Miles, and Valanciunas all scored 12 points apiece.
