Los Angeles Clippers at Toronto Raptors 2/3/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds

Los Angeles Clippers at Toronto Raptors Preview

It may be Super Sunday, but one of the NBA‘s Los Angeles contingent will be hoping to have a win today as well and be celebrating it by halftime of the big game going on in Atlanta.

The Clippers will be playing on the second night of a back-to-back as they travel north to face off against the Toronto Raptors.

Toronto is 37-16 on the season, good enough for second place in the East. They are 6-4 in their last 10 but have one of the league’s best home records at 21-5. Los Angeles, who is coming in off a win, has split their last 10 games. They are 29-24 on the season and sit at eighth in the Western Conference.

The Clippers swept the Raptors 2-0 in the 2017-18 season, but they’ll just hope to split the regular season series today as the season series comes to a close.  They last played the Raptors on December 11, 2018 with the Raptors dominating in their 123-99 win without the services of All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard. Serge Ibaka led the Raptors with 25 points and nine rebounds, while the Clippers were led by Boban Marjanovic’s 18 points.

Clippers Analysis

Los Angeles ClippersThe Los Angeles Clippers won their last game after dropping their previous two to the Hawks and to the Lakers in overtime during LeBron James’ return to the court.

The Clippers won 111-101 over the 22-29 Detroit Pistons last night, coming back after scoring just 22 in the opening quarter while the Pistons scored 40. They scored 35 in the fourth and limited the Pistons to just 14 to run away with the win late.

Most of the starters were kept to single digits in scoring, including an uncharacteristic low-scoring game by Tobias Harris, who finished with seven points and eight rebounds, but Doc Rivers opted to limit most of his starters’ minutes and rely on his bench knowing he would have the Raptors coming up today.

Only rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored in double figures amongst the starting group. He had 14 points. Four Clippers reserves scored a majority of the points for Los Angeles, including super subs Lou Williams, who had 39 points and nine assists, and Montrezl Harrell, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Mike Scott added 15 points and Boban Marjanovic notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 17 minutes.

Raptors Analysis

Toronto RaptorsThe Toronto Raptors lost their most recent game against Eastern Conference rival Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks won 105-92, further strengthening their stronghold on the Eastern Conference lead, which Toronto would like to gain on with a win over the Clippers today.

Pascal Siakam led the Raptors with 28 points. Kawhi Leonard was one of several players limited offensively by the Bucks’ stifling defense. Leonard had 16 points and Kyle Lowry had 10 points.

The Raptors, one of the league’s premier defensive teams, had trouble stopping Milwaukee’s balanced scoring attack as seven Bucks scored in double figures.

The Raptors were up and down in January after starting out of the gates strong to begin the season, but they’ve had to deal with several injuries and with Leonard sitting out several games. The Raptors are mostly healthy now, aside from Jonas Valunciunas, who is expected to be making his return sometime early this month.
