Los Angeles Clippers vs. Denver Nuggets Matchup Preview (3/22/22)
On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Clippers will fly to the “Mile High City” to try and even the season series to 2-2. The Clippers and Nuggets have proven to be one of the more interesting matchups during the 2021-22 NBA season. Every game they have played has been extremely close; the margin of victory has been three points or less in all three games. Earlier in the season, the Denver Nuggets blew a 25-point lead to the Clippers, who eventually secured a two-point win. Denver has since improved substantially on both ends of the floor, but that meltdown surely lingers on its mind every time these two teams match up. Check out the betting odds and my analysis for this game below to see who I have winning and what it will take from Nikola Jokic to get the win and the cover for Denver!
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Denver Nuggets Betting Odds
This season, every game between these two teams has been incredibly close by the end of the fourth quarter. Sure, the Nuggets held a massive double-digit lead over the Clippers in one of the games, but it did not matter by the end. That should continue to be a common theme for this matchup. Denver should be a slight home favorite, but if it is favored by more than five or six points, I will be all over the Los Angeles Clippers against the spread.

Los Angeles Clippers Analysis
The Los Angeles Clippers have made the most of what they have had this season, which has not been much. Los Angeles has been without Paul George for over half of the season and Kawhi Leonard for the entire season. Additionally, it traded for a dynamic scorer, Norman Powell, and lost him to a season-ending injury after merely three games in a Clippers’ uniform. Still, the Clippers have been solid, standing firmly in eighth place in a competitive Western Conference with little chance of losing that spot before the playoffs. They will have to play into the playoffs, but it is still impressive they are in this position with Reggie Jackson being their primary scorer. Recently, the Clippers have slipped a bit, dropping their past three games and four of their past five; however, that is more of a product of not being able to close games than not being competitive. They lost to the Toronto Raptors by three points, Atlanta Hawks by six points, and Cleveland Cavaliers in overtime. In their last game, though, Los Angeles did get run over by the Utah Jazz, but they have been on fire since returning Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell to their lineup.

Denver Nuggets Analysis
Since February 7th, Denver has been 13-6, which is quite impressive given its current roster. There is good news and bad news on that front, though. The good news is that Michael Porter Jr could return as soon as one week from now, vastly improving the scoring output for the Nuggets, but it will take some time to get him back into the swing of things. Now, it is time for the bad news. Unfortunately, reports have come out that Jamal Murray is “not close” to returning, and it is questionable whether or not he will be back by the start of the playoffs. Murray’s return could propel the Nuggets to atop the Western Conference, especially given how impressive Nikola Jokic has been. Nuggets fans can only sit back and hope. In the meantime, Denver has to win these kinds of games to get to fifth in the Western Conference. A matchup with Utah sounds much better than one with Memphis or a completely healthy Golden State team.
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Denver Nuggets Daily Fantasy Picks
I’m so put off by putting any Los Angeles Clippers players in my DFS lineup that I’m not sure that I can recommend anyone. In the Clippers’ last game, their top three scorers (healthy), Reggie Jackson, Marcus Morris Sr, and Luke Kennard, combined for 25 total points. There is no other potential playoff team in the NBA that could realistically happen besides the Clippers. If you are insistent on going with a player from the Clippers for this slate, give Terance Mann a look. Despite only starting in one of those, Mann has averaged 16 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in his past three games. Mann has evolved into a solid offensive weapon for Los Angeles, and he should continue to improve in that area as the season, and his career, continue.
Bones Hyland has been an integral part of this Denver Nuggets squad, especially during the second half of the 2021-22 NBA season. His skill set has taken a huge leap forward and has resulted in more playing time. In his past six games, Hyland has averaged just shy of 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds on nearly 26 minutes per game. His shooting split of 49/47/75 has been even more impressive in that span. While Hyland’s offensive output is not world-beating, he could be the difference between profiting and losing money as far as DFS is concerned. This is a solid matchup for him as I expect the Clippers to hone in on Jokic, considering he has posted averages of 32 points, 16 rebounds, and nine assists this year against them. Expect double-teams on Jokic, which will force other Nuggets players to step up on the offensive end!
