Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns Matchup Preview (2/15/22)
The Clippers, who just suffered a massive loss with Norman Powell’s foot injury, will take on the best team in basketball on Tuesday night at Footprint Center. Los Angeles can’t seem to catch a break, despite making so many of the “right” moves. Norman Powell was a fantastic addition and proved that, averaging 21 points, four assists, and three rebounds on a 48/43/85 shooting split in his first three games with the Clippers. Unfortunately, Los Angeles will be forced to continue its injury-riddled season without him, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George. The Clippers have dropped three of their past four games but will try to beat the seemingly unbeatable Suns at home.
Meanwhile, Phoenix is playing historically well so far in 2022, posting an insane record of 19-2 through its first 21 games. The Suns have not even had their entire roster healthy during that span, so it isn’t very comforting to imagine what may happen in the coming weeks. They have been led on their quest to reach the Finals for back-to-back seasons by Devin Booker and Chris Paul, who are both playing some of the best basketball of their careers. Under the betting odds section, I detail my favorite popular bet and the potential outcome for this matchup between two Western Conference squads.
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns Betting Odds
The Clippers are not “slouches” by any stretch of the imagination; they lost to the Mavericks by merely seven points despite Luka Doncic posting an exceptional 51 points. Two nights later, they beat the Mavericks on the road. Even though they are pacing as a slightly below .500 team, they still are capable. Unfortunately, the Clippers will have the Suns on the road on the second night of a back-to-back. This is not ideal for a team that is already banged up; I like the Suns against the spread in this matchup at -11 or better, but anything around 13 will scare me off.

Los Angeles Clippers Analysis
The Los Angeles Clippers continue to have horrendous luck, some of the worst of any NBA franchise in the past several years. First, it was Kawhi Leonard’s ACL tear in the second round of the playoffs last season. Despite a respectable showing from Paul George, the Clippers were unable to overcome the power and chemistry of the Phoenix Suns. Los Angeles was merely two games short of an NBA Finals appearance, and it would have had a real shot if Leonard had not gotten injured. Next, it was the injury to Paul George that may keep him out for the rest of the 2021-22 NBA season. George was an integral part of the Clippers’ offense and kept them in the playoff picture before his injury. Lastly, the foot injury to Norman Powell, merely days after trading for him, that will keep him out indefinitely. Things were looking up for the Clippers but are now back to the status quo. Unfortunately, it is hard to imagine these Clippers beating the best team in the NBA on the road.

Phoenix Suns Analysis
The Phoenix Suns look to continue their excellent start to 2022, having won 16 of their past 17 games and boasting a 19-2 record in the new year. It’s pretty incredible to consider how marvelous the Suns have been this season and how they still have not necessarily reached their peak. An example of this is trading for Torrey Craig and bringing him back onto a roster already stacked with experience and talent. What’s terrifying is the Suns are nowhere near full health; they are without Landry Shamet, Cam Payne, Dario Saric, and Frank Kaminsky. The latter two players probably will make slightly less impact when they are healthy due to the depth in the frontcourt; however, Payne and Shamet are two perimeter contributors off the bench. Phoenix may not be a consensus shoo-in for an NBA Championship, but they are an obvious frontrunner to me and many other basketball fans.
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns Daily Fantasy Picks
It did not take too much time for Torrey Craig to pick up where he left off with the Phoenix Suns. Craig showed incredible chemistry with the rest of the Suns’ players in a 14-point effort, where he also had four assists, three rebounds, and two steals in 23 minutes on the floor. The Clippers will be tired on the second night of a back-to-back, and that should leave players like Craig to get some open looks on the offensive end. Craig should find opportunity on the backs of Chris Paul and Devin Booker, who should receive the majority of the attention.
Reggie Jackson will again be relied upon for a substantial amount of workload on the offensive end. Jackson has averaged roughly 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds on the season but has been superb in certain games, such as the Clippers’ most recent game against the Dallas Mavericks when he had 24 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. Jackson is a score-first guard but can also rack up assists if there is an open man. He’s a volume shooter that can heat up at any moment, and the Clippers will need him to shoot a ton to keep up with a high-powered Suns offense that has posted some large numbers recently. You should consider plugging Reggie Jackson into your DFS lineup for this matchup, mainly since the Clippers will have to rely on his scoring and penetrating ability to generate offense.
