Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Tampa Bay Rays Matchup Preview (10/24/20): Betting Odds, Starting Lineups, Daily Fantasy Picks

Game 3 went to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 6-2 win. In a battle of aces, it was Walker Buehler who dominated with ten strikeouts over six innings, allowing just one earned run. Charlie Morton couldn’t pitch past the fifth, allowing five earned. It was Justin Tuner who started it off with a home run in the first, but the first four hitters combined for seven hits and two walks. The only damage the Rays were able to do off Buehler was an RBI double in the 5th by Willy Adames. It will be a bridge starter type day as both the Rays and Dodgers are starting to lefties that will try and go a few innings before handing it over to the bullpen. Yarbrough has a 3.56 ERA on the season while Urias is sitting at 3.27. The Dodgers are larger favorites in comparison to the first three games at -168 and the over/under has ticked up a half of run to eight as the first three games were at 7.5. Dodgers Analysis

los angeles dodgersJulio Urias has been a saver for the Dodgers, especially in that last game he pitched against Atlanta. He threw three scoreless innings in a key 4-3 win. Urias has a 4.57 xFIP on the season in 2020 and has allowed a lot of flyballs and hard-contact. These are obviously things that come with his style but also he won’t want to get caught up with the big right-handed bats of the Rays. Yandy Diaz has a great track record against left-handed pitching as does Renfroe who has a monster ISO. However, Renfroe is a higher strikeout name. Anytime a lefty is on the mound for the Rays I tend to look at the back half of the lineup because Will Smith, AJ Pollock, Chris Taylor and Kikè Hernandez are all names that have a solid track record against lefties. When you have to battle the bats of Betts, Seager, Turner, and Muncy before even getting to Bellinger in this group, there is certainly a reason why the Dodgers are putting up plenty of runs.

Rays Starting Lineup

  1. Randy Arozarena (R) LF
  2. Mike Brosseau (R) 2B
  3. Hunter Renfroe (R) 3B
  4. Yandy Diaz (R) 1B
  5. Brandon Lowe (L) L
  6. Willy Adames (R) SS
  7. Kevin Kiermaier (L) CF
  8. Mike Zunino (R) C
  9. Manuel Margot (R) RF
  10. Ryan Yarbrough (L) SP

Rays Analysis

tampa bay raysTampa Bay put themselves in a hole last game losing the battle of the aces. Both teams will turn to a bullpen arm, and the Rays might be at a disadvantage with this one. Ryan Yarbrough has pitched three times in this postseason going five innings in the first two starts against Houston and New York. He went five innings in each allowing a combined four runs but allowed a total of 12 baserunners over those two starts. He also had a relief appearance in this series going two-thirds of an inning. The Rays bats will have a tough time with Julio Urias being fantastic this postseason. He has allowed one run over 16 postseason innings. Strikeouts have been piling high for the Rays in this series and that likely won’t change. This lineup has a combined 26% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching. While Urias doesn’t have an eye-popping strikeout rate he still misses bats and has a good fastball and secondary options that both misses bats. If they don’t start getting the bat on the ball more and putting some pressure on the Dodgers, this series is as good as over.

Dodgers Vs Rays Daily Fantasy Angle

With two lefties on the hill today we shift back to the right-handed heavy Rays lineup and the Dodgers lineup mostly stays the same. Ryan Yarbrough doesn’t allow a ton of power and nor does he allow a ton of hard-contact. He has been tougher on right-handed hitters in comparison to lefties, allowing a .276 wOBA and .310 wOBA to lefties. He throws a changeup and cutter combo a combined 75% of the time against right-handers and then a curve and sinker mostly to left-handed hitters. Justin Turner has good numbers off changeups with a .362 wOBA and .222 ISO. No surprise Mookie Betts hits them well with a .380 wOBA and .228 ISO off them. The bottom half of the order offers up some value with their numbers against southpaws overall. Chris Taylor and AJ Pollock have over a .360 wOBA and .200 ISO off left-handed pitching dating back to last season.

Julio Urias has a good fastball that he has a 27% whiff rate on and a changeup that he uses quite a bit to right-handed hitters. Against lefties, he uses the slider more. Yandy Diaz, Arozarena and Hunter Renfroe are all big right-handed power bats to consider, and still Brandon Lowe has monster power with a .236 ISO off southpaws.

Dodgers Vs. Rays Betting Odds

Dodgers Odds: -170
Rays Odds: +150
Over/Under: 8

The over hit again thanks to the bottom of the ninth home run, making it 3-0 on the series so far. The over has hit in seven of the last nine games for the Dodgers and four of the last five games for the Rays. Public money is on the over heavily tonight as they are riding that train, while about 55% of the money is on the Dodgers to push a 3-1 lead. After being the under and Rays in the last game, I am going back on the over with the Rays being able to get a few runs again but the Dodgers lineup should continue to put up points. This will be a pivotal game for the Rays using their bullpen and trying to get back to their three key starting arms.
