Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Tampa Bay Rays Matchup Preview (10/27/20): Betting Odds, Starting Lineups, Daily Fantasy Picks

After a day off the Dodgers have a chance to close out the World Series. Game 5 was another close one as the Dodgers took care of business, winning 4-2. Clayton Kershaw threw a strong game going into the sixth inning. Dustin May, Victor Gonzalez, and Blake Treinen all closed the door in a strong relief performance. In fact, both bullpens were solid, allowing zero runs. Tyler Glasnow couldn’t get over the hump allowing four earned over five innings. The long ball but him with Joc Pederson and Max Munch going yard. The day of rest will help both bullpens but the Rays have an advantage with Blake Snell going tonight and Tony Gonsolin going for the Dodgers. They are slight favorites at -130 in a close-out game and this is the lowest they have been for the entire series. While the Dodgers won’t want to save it for Game 7 they do have Walker Buehler to fall back on if needed. Dodgers Analysis

los angeles dodgersLos Angeles is sending out Tony Gonsolin tonight. He had a 2.31 ERA and 0.84 WHIP over the season. He has struggled of late, especially that Atlanta series allowing seven earned over two outings. He allowed a couple of runners and a home run over 1.1 innings against the Rays in Game 2 before getting a quick hook. Gonsolin will have to pitch clean to go any deeper than last as Dave Roberts will likely have a quick hook, although it will be interesting to see what his options are. He can go for the dagger tonight or save some bullets for Game 7. Where the Rays have no other choice but to give everything they got tonight. Joc Pederson will take a seat with the lefty on the mound tonight and we should see a strong group of right-handed bats. Most of these names in the back half of the lineup have a strong track record against left-handed pitching.

Rays Starting Lineup

  1. Randy Arozarena (R) LF
  2. Hunter Renfroe (R) DH
  3. Austin Meadows (L) RF
  4. Ji-Man Choi (L) 1B
  5. Brandon Lowe (L) 2B
  6. Willy Adames (R) SS
  7. Kevin Kiermaier (L) CF
  8. Mike Zunino (R) C
  9. Joey Wendle (L) 3B
  10. Blake Snell (L) SP

Rays Analysis

tampa bay raysBlake Snell has walked a total of eight hitters over his last two games and has not gone past the fifth inning. The Rays desperately need a strong start out of him tonight and you can point to him and Glasnow as guys that have let down the team somewhat with their control issues. While the Dodgers lineup is not an easy one to get through they have created a lot of issues on their own. Snell will need to at least control damage and get to the 5th inning by keeping the Dodgers intact. If he can do that, the Rays should be able to force a Game 7 by getting to the Dodgers options lined up. With the right-hander starting on the mound for the Dodgers, we should expect Ji-Man Choi back in the lineup alongside Kevin Miermaier. Austin Meadow will also likely return although they can all be pinch-hit for later in the game with how deep the Rays bench is and their platoon bats.

Dodgers Vs Rays Daily Fantasy Angle

Dating back to last season Tony Gonsolin has a 24% strikeout rate and a 7% walk rate. He is a flyball arm and has limited damage to both sides of the plate but has allowed a lot of hard-contact that will surely catch up with him over time. His fastball is not good but he has an excellent slider and splitter combination. Once again Arozarena is a name to use with a .423 wOBA and .343 ISO off right-handers. I like the lefty power bats here as well with Brandon Lowe, Austin Meadows, and Ji-Man Choi. For the Dodgers, you like the right-handed bats. Justin Turner and Will Smith have strong numbers off southpaws but guys like Chris Taylor, Kikè Hernandez, and AJ Pollock also have strong numbers against southpaws. This Dodgers lineup 1-9 is great because even the left-handed bats crush southpaws, and Snell has allowed a .187 ISO to left-handed hitters since last season.

Dodgers Vs. Rays Betting Odds

Dodgers Odds: -130
Rays Odds: +110
Over/Under: 8

The Dodgers are -130 tonight and that is the lowest odds of the series so far. I am going to bank this on the desperation of the Rays plus the likely bullpen game that is coming for the Dodgers. The matchups for the Rays are what I like the most here even though the Dodgers are a lethal offense, I see them forcing a Game 7 with their offensive finally breaking out a big game against the Dodgers string of options for this game. The under finally hit in the last game but I wouldn’t bank on it here. 9 combined runs should be doable as they combined for ten in the last meeting but could see more from the Rays here tonight.
