Los Angeles Lakers at Memphis Grizzlies 11/23/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Daily Fantasy

Los Angeles Lakers at Memphis Grizzlies Preview

The Los Angeles Lakers have been nothing short of dominant at home, but that has also extended on the road, where they are 5-1. The Lakers will be looking to continue that trend as they head to Beale Street tonight against a young Memphis Grizzlies team.

The Lakers are 13-2, with the best record in the NBA, and they have won six straight games. They are also 9-1 in their last 10 games and are first in the Western Conference. Memphis hasn’t experienced the same success, as they are 5-9 and are currently in 11th place in the West. They are 3-6 at home and have lost their last two games heading into tonight’s matchup.

In their last game on October 29, Anthony Davis had a big night with 40 points and 20 rebounds and the Lakers handily beat the Grizzlies 120-91 at Staples Center.

Lakers Analysis

LosAngelesLakersThe Los Angeles Lakers are playing in the second game of a back-to-back tonight after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 130-127 last night.

The game was very close and both teams were limited offensively in the fourth quarter, but Anthony Davis hit some big free throws to give them the win down the stretch.

“I worked a lot on putting myself on the line for situations like that,” Davis said. “It’s just going out there and knowing your routine. Just being up there, being poised and have the confidence to make your shot.”

Davis led the Lakers in scoring with 33 points to go along with 11 rebounds and seven assists. LeBron James, who has played well in his role as a distributor, finished with 23 points and 14 assists. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who started with Avery Bradley out, had 17 points, and Danny Green chipped in 14.

Grizzlies Analysis

Memphis GrizzliesThe Memphis Grizzlies are obviously in rebuilding mode after moving away from franchise cornerstone Mike Conley in the offseason, so things have not been easy, but the young Grizzlies seem to be learning and have a future that looks exciting. They’ll have to learn fast with the best team in the NBA coming into their house tonight.

“He’s obviously one of the greatest in the history (of the NBA), they’re the best team in the NBA right now, so it’s an exciting challenge,” Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said. “Every night is a great challenge for us. It’s going to be a huge challenge for us and I think our guys will come prepared after two days of really focusing on ourselves and be able to take on the Lakers on Saturday.”

While the Lakers are playing in the second game of a back-to-back, Memphis has had several days of rest leading up to this game. In their last game on Tuesday night, they lost 114-95 to fellow Western Conference cellar dwellers in the Golden State Warriors.

Rookie Ja Morant and Jae Crowder led the starters with 20 and 15 points apiece while Dillon Brooks and Brandon Clarke came off the bench for a combined 35 points.

Key Player Matchups

Anthony Davis vs. Jaren Jackson Jr.

Jaren Jackson Jr. is the new version of the NBA power forward, a tall, athletic stretch forward who would normally play at small forward, whereas Anthony Davis would mostly be considered a center. Davis should have a big mismatch tonight, although Jenkins could switch Jackson onto McGee and have Jonas Valanciunas guard Davis, but in the end, it’s still Anthony Davis, who is performing at an MVP level this season.

LeBron James vs. Jae Crowder

James takes on another player known for his pesky defense tonight in Crowder. The Grizzlies forward has also been getting it done offensively for Memphis lately, but in the end, unless he’s matched up against Kawhi Leonard, it would be hard to see James doesn’t have a considerable edge tonight.

Daily Fantasy

The Lakers have several candidates for fantasy studs tonight, whereas the Grizzlies don’t yet have anyone on that level yet. I’m going with Anthony Davis tonight especially because he seems to have a mismatch on his hands. Davis is available for $10k on FanDuel and is projected for 54.21 points against the Grizzlies.

Ja Morant may not have the best points per $1k rating at 3.86, but he’s the best bet for a value player on the Memphis roster in this matchup. He has a salary of $6.7k and is projected to finish with 25.89. If you’re willing to take a flyer, Dillon Brooks might be worth the risk as well.

For the Lakers, Dwight Howard still has a criminally low salary of $4.4k with a projection of 23.6 points. Howard is coming off a big game last night and he can provide points, rebounds, blocks, and solid field goal percentage numbers. He also has a 5.36 points per $1k rating, which certainly doesn’t hurt.
