Los Angeles Lakers at New Orleans Pelicans 11/27/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Daily Fantasy

Los Angeles Lakers at New Orleans Pelicans Preview

The Los Angeles Lakers are back out on the road tonight as they make a stop in the Big Easy in their pre-Turkey Day matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans. Tonight’s matchup should be even more interesting as Anthony Davis returns to New Orleans and Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart host their former team.

The Lakers are the league’s top team and are tied for the longest winning streak after reeling off eight straight wins. The Lakers have only experienced two defeats in 17 games this season as they hold onto first place in the Western Conference. They are also 7-1 on the road, which bodes well for their game tonight.

New Orleans is still eagerly awaiting Zion Williamson’s return. He is expected to return in the middle of next month, but until then, the Pelicans have struggled to a 6-11 record that currently has them at 11th in the Western Conference. The Pelicans have lost their last two games, are 5-5 in their last ten and they only have a .500 record at Smoothie King Center.

Lakers Analysis

LosAngelesLakers Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis understands he’ll be walking into New Orleans with a target on his back tonight. The former Pelicans center, who had spent his entire career in NOLA, asked for a trade last season that went public and became a bit of a sideshow. But Davis seems to relish the opportunity to set up camp in the visiting locker room for the first time.

“It’s going to be me against the Pelicans and then the three guys, if they play, against the Lakers, so it’s going to be a great battle,” Davis said. “Those guys are going to try to take our heads off just to prove a point, and I don’t want to say I want to take their heads off. I just want to win it.”

Davis has been fantastic with the Lakers and the Lakers themselves have been the league’s best team early. The Lakers have had three close games, but they’ve been able to continue to pile up wins.

In their most recent win on the road against the struggling San Antonio Spurs, San Antonio stayed within reach until the last few minutes of the fourth quarter in their 114-104 win.

The Lakers were led by LeBron James with 33 points and 14 assists. Davis had 19 points and 12 rebounds and the Lakers had three bench players score in double figures.

Pelicans Analysis

New Orleans PelicansNew Orleans fans will likely be raining down boos on Anthony Davis, but while his former coach Alvin Gentry has mentioned his return, he seems to be more focused on the Lakers as a whole.

“AD is a great kid and a great player who plays on another team now,” Gentry said. “The bottom line is we’re getting ready to play against a really, really, really good basketball team. They have two great players and a lot of other guys who are very good, complementary players.”

Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram could have chips on their shoulders as they take on their former team and teammate LeBron James. Ingram has shown marked improvement and has become the de facto leader of the Pelicans, especially with Zion’s absence.

In their most recent game, a 134-109 loss against the Los Angeles Clippers, Ingram led the team with 24 points and eight rebounds. Jrue Holiday, who has served as the Robin to Antonio Davis’ Batman, had 18 points, and JJ Redick scored 12.E’Twaun Moore was big off the bench with 17 points, and the Pelicans will need him for scoring help tonight, especially if Jaxson Hayes and Kenrich Williams have a second consecutive game where their contribution is insignificant in the starting group.

Key Player Matchups

LeBron James vs. Brandon Ingram

This is the matchup NBA fans will likely look forward to the most. These two probably had a few battles in practice last season, but Ingram is not the same player, and LeBron is LeBron. Ingram will want to prove himself against his former teammate, but James still has the edge in this matchup.

Anthony Davis vs, Kenrich Williams

David has a huge matchup advantage against Williams here. Williams is averaging right around six points and six rebounds per game, and he’s undersized at the four at just 6-6 against Davis, who towers over him at 6-10. Davis is averaging 25 points and nine rebounds per game and is looking like an early MVP candidate.

Daily Fantasy

Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday are tonight’s stud picks. Davis is available for $10k on FanDuel and he is projected for 55.24 points. Holiday has a salary of $8.1k and is expected to rack up 38.84 fantasy points.

If you’re looking to pick up a value player, Rajon Rondo is a low-risk player. He is salaried at just $5k on FanDuel and is projected for 25.19 points.
