Los Angeles Lakers vs. Brooklyn Nets 12/18/18: Starting Lineups, Matchup Breakdown, Odds, Daily Fantasy, Betting

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Brooklyn Nets Preview

The Brooklyn Nets (13-18) will put their five-game winning streak on the line as they welcome the Los Angeles Lakers (18-12) to the Barclays Center tonight.

This will be the first game of the season series between the Lakers and Nets, but the Lakers have a 30-13 record on the road against the Nets.

The Lakers had a streak going themselves of four straight but had that snapped on Sunday night in a 110-128 rout. Several Lakers players struggled offensively while John Wall went off for 40.

The Nets’ current streak is their longest since the 2014-15 season and it all started with an unexpected win over Toronto. They’ll likely have the odds stacked against them tonight.

Lakers Analysis

LosAngelesLakersThe Lakers got off to a rough start in their Sunday loss to the Wizards and never seemed to recover. It was the second game of a back-to-back, but the Lakers have typically done well this season in that regard. What made it worse is that it came after they smashed the Charlotte Hornets by 28 points.

While they got a standout performance from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Kyle Kuzma performed well, they struggled pretty much everywhere else. LeBron James managed only 13 points and their other starters scored 16 points combined. The Lakers also turned the ball over 22 times.

The Lakers will have to clean up their miscues if they want to get past the young, surging Nets in the last game of their four-game road trip. James has said his team will have no excuses after getting two days of rest, and that they’ll have to be ready to defend all game against a team that is putting up a ton of points lately.

Nets Analysis

Brooklyn NetsThis young Nets team is looking for a challenge, and they’ll get one in the Lakers tonight as they try to extend their streak.

D’Angelo Russell was huge in the Nets’ latest win against the Hawks, finishing with 32 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. With Allen Crabbe out, the Nets turned to second-round draft pick Rodions Kurucs of Latvia in the starting lineup and the rookie delivered with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Spencer Dinwiddie has been clutch for the Nets this season off the bench, averaging 17.2 points and five assists per game.

With LeBron coming to town, look for the Nets to try to defend him with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and DeMarre Carroll.

DraftKings & FanDuel Fantasy Picks

LeBron James and D’Angelo Russell are the studs for tonight’s matchup. James is expected to bounce back from his performance against the Wizards. He has a FanDuel salary of $11,500 and is projected for 52.58 points, the largest projection on either team by a longshot.

Former Laker Russell is coming off a 55.70 point performance, and at a salary of $7,300, he is projected for a more modest 32.41 fantasy points.

The Lakers’ value pick is Kyle Kuzma. He was one of the rare Lakers who performed well against the Wizards and that trend is expected to continue. Kuzma has a salary of $7,700 and is projected to finish with 28.74 fantasy points.

While Spencer Dinwiddie has been my go-to value pick for the Nets, and he’s certainly a good option, I’m going with center Jarrett Allen. If you need rebounds and blocks on your team, he’s your man at his $6,000 salary. He is projected for 29.32 points.
