Los Angeles Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors Matchup Preview (2/12/22)
After an inexplicably embarrassing effort against the Trail Blazers, the Los Angeles Lakers will continue their west-coast road trip against the Golden State Warriors, who just lost an equally embarrassing game against the Knicks. Golden State was amongst the hottest teams in the NBA until it dropped back-to-back games against the Utah Jazz and New York Knicks. To make matters worse, the Knicks game was at home, and they did not have R.J. Barrett, who has indisputably been their best player in the past month or two. The Warriors are still missing the presence of Draymond Green, who plays a much more significant role than just what reflects on the stat sheet. Green is every bit as important to the culture that the Warriors have built over the past decade as Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
Los Angeles is completely and utterly stuck right now: it just lost to the abysmal Norman Powell and C.J. McCollum-less Trail Blazers. The Lakers also did not make any moves before the trade deadline, so there is no impending hope that could save their season. They also have no draft capital for the foreseeable future either, so there were not many moves to be made, unfortunately. In the Blazers game, the Lakers gave Westbrook the night off, and they still lost, so clearly, he is not the only issue with this team. Unless the Lakers change their culture and become an elite defense, they have virtually no chance of being relevant come playoff time. Check out my pick for this game under betting odds and see who I like against the spread in this one!
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors Betting Odds
After watching the Lakers lose to the Portland Trail Blazers, who boasted a lineup of C.J. Elleby, Justise Winslow, Jusuf Nurkic, Anfernee Simons, and Ben McLemore and a bench of Dennis Smith Jr, Trendon Watford, Greg Brown, and Keljin Blevins, I have lost all faith in Los Angeles. While the Warriors have dropped back-to-back games against the Jazz and Knicks, they still have a much more complete roster and significantly more chemistry on both ends of the floor. If the spread does not get exceptionally wide, I will side with the Warriors against the spread.

Los Angeles Lakers Analysis
The Lakers could not be in more of a rut right now unless LeBron was injured again; they have been miserable in their past two games, dropping a home game to the Bucks and a road game to the short-handed Portland Trail Blazers. Portland had no reason to win that game as it dealt several players just days before, and none of the players knew what their future held. Still, Portland found a way to squeak out a win behind a massive Anfernee Simons performance, and once again, the Lakers struggled against opposing guards. This has been a theme all season for them, and it certainly does not help that they will be facing Steph Curry, Jordan Poole, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins in this matchup. I would be expecting an absolute beatdown.
Golden State Warriors Starting Lineup
PG: Steph Curry
SG: Klay Thompson
SF: Andrew Wiggins
PF: Otto Porter Jr.
C: Kevon Looney
Golden State Warriors Analysis
Golden State had won nine straight games after dropping a terrible home loss to the Indiana Pacers’ “C-Team,” but has recently dropped back-to-back games. The Warriors had a rare home loss to the New York Knicks in their last game, partially due to a huge Julius Randle performance that mirrored what he was doing last season. Still, the Knicks were without R.J. Barrett and should have been nowhere near beating the Warriors at home. This is a slight cause for concern, but they should handle a Lakers team that has no chemistry whatsoever this season. Every game in the NBA can go a different way than what is expected; however, it is hard to imagine the Lakers turning it around on the road against such a great offense.
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors Daily Fantasy Picks
LeBron James is quite literally the only light for this Los Angeles Lakers team that just lost to the Portland Trail Blazers, who had just disposed of their two best players outside of Damian Lillard, who won’t play for the rest of the 2021-22 NBA season. LeBron has put up his best offensive numbers in years, and the Lakers still can’t seem to get away from mediocrity. In James’ past 21 games, he has posted 32 points, nine rebounds, and six assists on 55% shooting from the field and 35% from the field. What more can the Lakers ask for from a 37-year old LeBron James? His season points average is the highest since the 2009-10 season, which is mind-boggling to think about. The fact that his skill set has improved in every way since then is crazy. Still, the Lakers are such a miserable team that LeBron will have to continue to put up these absurd stat lines just for them to have a remote chance at making the playoffs, so expect this hot streak to get even hotter in the coming weeks.
Jonathan Kuminga is the clear DFS play right now from this Warriors team. Kuminga has been getting a ton of tick recently, and his energy has given this Warriors team a much-needed boost, with Draymond Green still sidelined with an injury. Additionally, Kuminga has been significantly outplaying his season averages in his last five games. During that span, Kuminga has posted 16.4 points, which is nine points above his season average, while also snagging four rebounds. Kuminga’s current salary is worth consideration at the forward or utility spot on your bench in DFS. The reward well outweighs the risk for Kuminga in fantasy sports right now, and this matchup is ideal for a player who slashes and uses his athleticism.
