Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers 8/24/20: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers Matchup Preview
Portland will look to even things up here in Game 4, as they are coming off back-to-back losses in the series. They struggled to contain James and Davis and the shot was off for players not in the backcourt. The Lakers are seven-point favorites and the under has been a winner in each of the three games so far this series. Los Angeles being able to slow things down a bit has helped them out in their two wins. Look for them to do more of the same tonight.

Lakers Starting 5
The gameplan continues to be let LeBron James and Anthony Davis do the work and see who can chip in and have a good game around them. The offense shot 50% from the field, but that had mostly to do with James and Davis. Alex Caruso came in and had 27 quality minutes off the bench. He was +10 and dished out a 10-4-7 line. Oly him and KCP were the names to have double-digit scoring points. Los Angeles will likely continue to drive to the lane as they had a major edge getting to the line 43 times. However, they only capitalized on it 65% of the time.
Games 2 and 3 are going to be the blueprint for a Game 4 win as they will just let their two best players run the show and hope the wings can make some timely threes. This does give me concern for the rounds moving forward where teams can attack the Lakers in different ways.
Trail Blazers Starting 5
Trail Blazers Analysis
Game 3 was a closer game for the Trail Blazers but they still had a lackluster second half, especially in the third quarter. They struggled to defend basically the only two they need to defend, in LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Both had their way getting to the line and both dished out a combined 16 assists. It is going to be an issue and we knew that already. Lillard, Anthony, and McCollum all had or 20 points, but Nurkic and Whiteside combined for 18 points in over 60 minutes combined between the two. The Lakers will continue to hammer the paint and get to the line. Gary Trent Jr is also going to have to find his groove as he is the only threat off the bench. There are simply no other options for the Blazers to work with and that is an issue. Game 4 they are going to need to find some magic and one of the bigs is going to have to really step up and deliver for them to have a chance.
Lakers vs Trail Blazers Fantasy Basketball Angle
Outside of the massive blowout in game 2, Damian Lillard has been phenomenal in fantasy. We know the volume is going to be there but the price is as well. I don’t mind him given he has averaged over 50 fantasy points per game in six meetings against the Lakers. LeBron James has been the most intriguing though as he is flirting with triple-doubles on a nightly basis. Anthony Davis has found his groove so far with over 50 fantasy points in each of the last three games. Even in the blowout game, he had 31 and 11 in 29 minutes. Look for his dominance to continue against a Portland frontcourt that can not contain him.
Lakers vs Trail Blazers Betting Odds
Lakers Odds: -330
Trail Blazers Odds: +265
Spread: LAL -7
The Lakers have taken two of the first three games by an average score of 106 to 98. This series has been slowed down at times which bodes well for the Lakers and is one of the main reasons why the under is 3-0 so far this series. Portland has tried to matchup with the Lakers size but that was always going to be an issue regardless of who they put out there. While this game should stay close, it is hard to see the Lakers giving this one away. Ultimately it will come down to if Portland’s shot is going to fall as they have only shot 40% in the series.
