Los Angeles Rams vs. Detroit Lions kicks off this Sunday at 8:00pm EST in Detroit, MI as a home game for the Lions. The Rams are currently a +3 underdog on the spread and +140 on the moneyline while the total is set at 51.5. The Rams being in a position to thrive through the air will create plenty of scoring opportunities, playing towards the over in what should be a high scoring affair. Better yet, the Lions offense will be in a position to go score for score as Jared Goff should face minimal pressure when inside the pocket. The Rams defensive front four ranks 21st in Def Adjusted Line Yards and Sack Rate.

With a clean pocket, the Lions pass attack will be tough to slow down as they thrive in creating separation in the open space. That gives Goff high quality passing lanes for him to convert, allowing the likes of Amon-Ra St Brown to gain yards after the catch as he streaks through the middle. Factor in their ground game being in a position to gain chunks at a time against a weak front four and the Lions have multiple ways to stay ahead of the sticks.

Leg 3: Matthew Stafford Over 272.5 Passing Yards

As noted earlier, the Rams success will depend heavily on the arm of Matthew Stafford as he gets the opportunity to shred a weak Lions secondary. The Rams enter this contest ranked ninth in Pass DVOA and 11th in Pass EPA. Their Pass Success Rate drops to 14th, but that area of the offense should tick back up as Stafford’s pass catchers excel in exploiting gaps in coverage.

The Lions already struggle to defend elite receivers, now having to do so against the duo of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. Kupp is one of the best route runners and open field separators in the league while Puka is an emerging talent excelling in the same areas as Kupp. Better yet for this over, their ground game may struggle as the Lions front seven ranks first in Def Rush DVOA. That means more potential pass attempts for Stafford, giving a higher chance for cashing this over.

Leg 4: Jared Goff Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns

Jared Goff will also be in a position to thrive against the Rams defense as he exploits their lack of coverage. Especially when the Rams are backed up into the red zone, ranking 18th in Def Pass EPA and 21st in Def Pass DVOA. The Lions have done a good job at capitalizing on their opportunities when in scoring position, ranking seventh in Pass EPA.

With the Lions offense being in a good position to routinely move the ball down the field, there will be plenty of scoring opportunities for Goff to cash this prop. Losing Sam LaPorta stings, yet the Lions still field plenty of pass catchers that can make up for the loss in production. Expect a heavier dose of Jameson Williams, using him in screens and quick outs to limit the potential for a turnover worthy play and getting him in the open field to run one in.
