Los Angeles Rams Analysis

los angeles rams
The Los Angeles Rams are 7-3 and hold the first place spot in the NFC West division. The Rams are coming off of two very impressive wins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks. They will be looking to stay ahead in the division with a win over the San Francisco 49ers this week.

The Rams’ defense has been their biggest asset this season as far as slowing opponents down. They have one of the better rushing defenses in the league, which will be useful against the heavy rushing offense of the San Francisco 49ers. They are one of the few teams to allow under 100 rushing yards per game and allow only 3.9 yards per attempt, which ranks 6th in the league. Aaron Donald has been having another terrific year with 9.0 sacks and seven tackles for a loss. He will be an important piece in slowing down the 49ers’ offense.

Jared Goff has been having a really solid season thus far, ranking 8th in yards, completing 67% of his passes, and being one of the fewest sacked quarterbacks in the league. He has a lot to be thankful for in terms of being surrounded by the defense, offensive line, and the duo of Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. However, San Francisco allows the fifth least amount of passing yards and have a respectable secondary. The Rams will have to scheme well on offense with the use of Goff and their running backs.

The run game, led by Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown, is one of the most proficient offenses in the league. As a team, the Rams rank in the top ten for attempts, yards, and touchdowns for their run game. Last week they were held to under 50 rushing yards as a team against Tampa Bay, which has one of the best rushing defenses in the league. However, two weeks prior, against Seattle, they had three rushing touchdowns and over 100 yards as a team.

The Rams have been outdoing their expectations in this tough NFC West division and are in a great spot by leading the division. Only the Cardinals have a better record than them at the moment, but Seattle is right behind them, tying their actual record. The Rams will be going against a struggling 49ers team who has lost its last three games.

San Francisco 49ers Analysis

San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are in last place in the NFC West with a 4-6 record. They have had a difficult schedule lately and have not won a game since week seven. They will be coming off of a bye week this week to take on their division rivals. The last time they played the Rams, they won 24-16 at home.

The 49ers’ run game will be a struggling factor against the Rams’ defense, who are extremely good at defending the run. Luckily, however, the 49ers should receive Raheem Mostert back this week, who has been their intended #1 running back the whole season. Two weeks ago, against the Saints, their rushing offense seriously struggled with only 49 team rushing yards. They will need to get some type of run game going to help out their passing game, who will be without Brandon Aiyuk this weekend.

Jimmy Garoppolo has been struggling big time this season with injury and even more injuries to his weapons around him. Going without George Kittle in this game will be a struggle, considering the last time the 49ers played the Rams, he went for 7-109-1 against them. But, with Raheem in that game, he was able to help their squad deliver over 100 team rushing yards against one of the best rushing defenses in the league. Last week, in terms of the quarterback play, they were held back by two interceptions forced by Garoppolo. Against a Rams’ defense that is top ten in takeaways per game, Garoppolo will need to clean up his act.

The San Francisco 49ers’ defense will be important in containing Goff and his offense this Sunday. This year, they have been holding teams to 23.4 points per game, which is extremely useful considering their injured offense is limited from scoring a lot of points. Last time, they held the Rams to 16 points while only scoring 24 of their own. The key will be getting to Goff because he is one of the least pressured quarterbacks in the league. Without Nick Bosa, they have struggled this season, ranking 22nd in sacks per game.

Betting Corner Rams -6.5

Spread: +/- 6.5
Moneyline: 49ers +260, Rams -335
Over/Under: 45

Prediction

Spread: Rams -6.5
Moneyline: Rams -335
Over/Under: u45

The Los Angeles Rams need a win to stay in first place in the NFC West, with the assumption that the Seattle Seahawks will beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. With that alone, I believe the Rams will pull away with this one against an injured 49ers team. For the spread, the Rams have covered every spread given to them at home and every spread when they are favored between 3 and 7 points. My Rams are my pick for the win and spread.

While the line is very tempting and low, I still cannot see these teams doing much against each other on offense. They struggle on offense more than defense, and their defenses are outstanding. The under is my pick for this game, but I would hear an argument for the over.

Love/Hate Fantasy Picks

Cooper Kupp

Love

Cooper Kupp has seen only two games under 10 points this season, and one of them was against the 49ers in week six. Woods struggled too outside of his lone touchdown. However, Cooper Kupp has been phenomenal lately as he has been all season. Plus, Kupp gets 1.5 more targets per game than Woods does. In week 8, Kupp got 20 targets from Goff. He should be due for a good week in an important game next week.

Hate

Jerick McKinnon has seen his moments of fantasy glory this season with the injuries to his backfield. But, Raheem Mostert will probably take the lead role in his return, and Tevin Coleman is also questionable but has a chance at playing as well. Especially against the Rams’ rushing defense, I am not confident with starting any 49ers’ running back this weekend.
