Los Angeles Rams Analysis

Rams LogoJared Goff has had an up and down season and this is a matchup that is a bit of a concern given the Bucs have an improved secondary and a good pass rush. This is of course the same on both sides with the Rams having Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey leading the way. Goff has 13 touchdowns on the season and is averaging 276 yards per game. The Rams have been a ground heavy team this year, but it has come in a committee form. Darrell Henderson has 102 attempts, for 486 yards and four touchdowns. Cam Akers and Malcolm Brown are next in line, all averaging over four yards per carry, but Henderson has been the better back. Robert Woods has not only been a good receiver, he has 17 attempts for 111 yards and two rushing touchdowns this season. Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods are one-two in receiving yards for the team and lead the team in targets. Josh Reynolds has really stepped up of late and now has a 30-416-2 line on the season.

Defensively the Rams are allowing 16.8 points per game this season and the pass defense has been terrific. They are holding teams to 199 passing yards per game, and opposing teams have just nine passing touchdowns and eight interceptions. The run defense is also solid, allowing 96 yards per game on 4.1 yards per carry.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Analysis

Tampa Bay BuccaneersTampa Bay is 7-3 on the year and just narrowly behind the Saints for the division. Both sides of the ball have certainly improved this year, but defensively the upgrades have really made a difference. Opposing teams are scoring 22.6 points per game and they continue to be the best run defense in the NFL, allowing 76 yards per game on 3.3 yards per attempt. Passing they have given up still quite a bit, but that isn’t a huge knock as they are holding teams to only 223 yards and have 12 interceptions. Antoine Winfield is one of the major steals of this recent draft. Devin White also continues to be a jackpot draft pick.

The Buccaneers have so many weapons on the offensive side and while that is an issue for fantasy football, real life football doesn’t seem to mind too much. Ronald Jones has been tremendous this season, rushing for over five yards per carry and while Leonard Fournette has worked his way in at times, Jones continues to be the better back. Injuries have come and gone for Chris Godwin this season which has led to a shakeup in targets but when everybody is healthy things are very even. Brady has done a great job of moving the ball around, with three players over 400 yards and Gronkowski chipping with 374 yards and four scores.

The Buccaneers are four-point favorites this week and this is a game I am struggling to grasp as far as how it will turn out. Both defenses have the capability of shutting down the offenses this week, especially the Rams against the pass and the Buccaneers against the run. The under has been very favorable in Rams games this season, hitting in seven of the nine games. The Bucs are 6-4 in the over. There are so many stud skill position players in this one that the over looks appealing to the public and that is where they are leaning. The under is intriguing to me because putting pressure on Tom Brady sets him back a ton and being able to force Jared Goff to beat you is also not as appealing. This has the looks of a defensive battle written all over it.

Daily Fantasy Picks

This is a Monday night game which means it will be a showdown slate. There are two very good defenses here, as they sit both top ten in DVOA. There really are not a ton of matchups to exploit, and more so we have to trust some of the talent to overcome it. The Buccaneers have three receivers that could easily pop off in this one but a Rams secondary that has shut down wide receivers this season. They also have a very good run defense, but you can make the case for Ronald Jones here given they rank 12th against the run. Antonio Brown might get out of the way against some of the better corners on the team, such as Jalen Ramsey. He has been targeted early and worth a look. On the Rams side, the Buccaneers rank in the bottom ten against tight ends, and while Tyler Higbee is tough to trust, he is worth a look still in this style of contest. I also like Robert Woods due to the rushing potential he brings. The running backs will continue to be tricky to figure out.
