On their second night of a back-to-back, the Memphis Grizzlies will head to Dallas to battle with the Mavericks. Below, I cover the preview for the matchup, my predictions, and picks, the projected starting lineups, and live odds leading up to the start of the game!
Memphis Grizzlies Vs. Dallas Mavericks Betting Odds
The Memphis Grizzlies are five-point road dogs against the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas has started the season 1-0 against the spread after a narrow loss to the Phoenix Suns, while Memphis was unable to cover at home (0-1 ATS) versus the New York Knicks.
At the time of writing, the point total was not available but check the tiles above for the point total, as it will drop by the time this article is published.
Memphis Grizzlies Vs. Dallas Mavericks Prediction
Memphis showed a lot of guts in its narrow road victory against the Houston Rockets on Friday night. The Grizzlies were down double-digits in the first half but clawed their way back in the last two quarters to secure the road victory. There was nothing easy about this game; Houston shot the lights out and got huge games from Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Kevin Porter Jr, and others!
Ja Morant finished with 49 points after going 5-for-6 from deep while also bringing down four rebounds and dishing out eight assists.! Morant has shown improved shooting through the first two games of the 2022-23 season, and while it is still early, this is incredibly promising for not only him but the Grizzlies as well.
The reality right now, though, is that Memphis is missing three of its five or six best players due to injury, and the Mavericks are completely healthy. Additionally, Dallas has not played since Wednesday, so it will have several days of rest, while the Grizzlies will be playing the second night of a back-to-back.
Memphis will be tired, even though it doesn’t have to travel too far from Houston to Dallas. The Grizzlies game on Friday night against Houston had to be draining as it was fast-paced, and both teams were shooting the lights out. Expect a slight hangover from the Grizzlies in this one and a bounce-back cover at home from the Mavs, something they did so well last season.
- Memphis was 28-18-1 last season ATS on the road
- Dallas was 29-18-2 last season ATS at home
- Dallas went 3-1 against Memphis last season
- In four games, the point total hit 200 points just one time
The most anticipated key matchup in this game between the Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks is Ja Morant versus Luka Doncic, a collision of two of the brightest young stars in the NBA. Check out my analysis of this battle below!
Ja Morant vs. Luka Doncic
You shouldn’t be surprised if the Memphis Grizzlies cross-switch this matchup; Luka Doncic is too big for Morant to defend, and he’s not a great defender, even if he was big enough. Doncic will likely be guarded by Desmond Bane for most of the game, but that does not mean that the Morant vs. Doncic matchup doesn’t exist, just not literally.
Morant and Doncic are two MVP candidates; Doncic is the favorite, while Morant is the dark horse! Each player will want to mark their territory in the Western Conference and build upon their MVP resume.
Against the Dallas Mavericks, Morant averaged 27 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in two games last season, while Doncic posted roughly 30 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists in three games. Expect these two to throw metaphorical punches at each other until the final horn; these games matter for potential MVP runs.
