Memphis showed a lot of guts in its narrow road victory against the Houston Rockets on Friday night. The Grizzlies were down double-digits in the first half but clawed their way back in the last two quarters to secure the road victory. There was nothing easy about this game; Houston shot the lights out and got huge games from Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Kevin Porter Jr, and others!
Ja Morant finished with 49 points after going 5-for-6 from deep while also bringing down four rebounds and dishing out eight assists.! Morant has shown improved shooting through the first two games of the 2022-23 season, and while it is still early, this is incredibly promising for not only him but the Grizzlies as well.
The reality right now, though, is that Memphis is missing three of its five or six best players due to injury, and the Mavericks are completely healthy. Additionally, Dallas has not played since Wednesday, so it will have several days of rest, while the Grizzlies will be playing the second night of a back-to-back.
Memphis will be tired, even though it doesn’t have to travel too far from Houston to Dallas. The Grizzlies game on Friday night against Houston had to be draining as it was fast-paced, and both teams were shooting the lights out. Expect a slight hangover from the Grizzlies in this one and a bounce-back cover at home from the Mavs, something they did so well last season.

You shouldn’t be surprised if the Memphis Grizzlies cross-switch this matchup; Luka Doncic is too big for Morant to defend, and he’s not a great defender, even if he was big enough. Doncic will likely be guarded by Desmond Bane for most of the game, but that does not mean that the Morant vs. Doncic matchup doesn’t exist, just not literally.
