Golden State Warriors at Miami Heat Preview

If the Miami Heat hope to climb back into playoff position with just 23 regular season games remaining on their schedule, they’ll need tough wins at home like they face tonight in the Golden State Warriors.

Miami is 26-33 on the season and comes into tonight’s game on a three-game losing streak. They are 1.5 games behind the Charlotte Hornets for eighth place in the East and are 2-8 in their last 10. Golden State is sitting in the top spot in the Western Conference, but they can’t get too comfortable as a hot streak by the Denver Nuggets puts them in first place by just one game. They are 43-17 on the season and are 7-3 in their last 10 games.

In their last matchup, the Warriors just edged out the Heat 118-120 in Oakland on February 10. Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 39 points, while Josh Richardson had 37 for Miami,

Warriors Analysis

Golden State WarriorsThe Warriors overcame a 112-118 loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday by taking care of the Charlotte Hornets on the road, 121-110 on Monday night.

The Hornets tried to keep up with the high-powered Warriors offense, but Golden State wore them down over the four quarters to assure they wouldn’t have consecutive losses for the first team in two months.

DeMarcus Cousins, who has been on a minutes restriction since he returned from his Achilles injury, is getting closer to regular rotation minutes and played a season-high 31 against the Hornets.

“I think this is the best he has looked. He made a couple of moves around the hoop where he showed great agility,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.

Cousins had 24 points and 11 rebounds in the win. The Warriors were led in scoring by shooting guard Klay Thompson, who had 26 points.

It was also one of the better games for Draymond Green, who left the Rockets game due to injury. He was back on Monday and looked like the Draymond of years past, nearly putting up a triple-double. Green had 14 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds, which is an uptick, especially in the scoring department.

Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry also scored in double digits for the Warriors with 20 and 16 points respectively.

Heat Analysis

Miami HeatThe Miami Heat have had a rough run lately as they have lost their last three games. Their loss on Monday night against the league-worst Phoenix Suns. They were without James Johnson, Justise Winslow, Rodney McGruder, and Derrick Jones on Monday, but likely should’ve still had enough firepower to outgun the Suns in the 121-124 loss, which marked just the Suns’ 12th win on the season.

That’s obviously not lost on Heat guard Dwyane Wade, who is playing in his final NBA season.

“This game hurts,” Wade said. “It’s unfortunate.”

The Heat’s big men performed well in the game. Hassan Whiteside finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds, Kelly Olynyk had 28 points and 10 rebounds, and Bam Adebayo had 14 and nine as they limited Suns rookie center DeAndre Ayton to 14 points.

Richardson, who scored a season-high his last time out against the Warriors, was only able to manage seven points against the Suns. He has been the Heat’s go-to scorer and if Miami wants any chance at reaching the postseason, Richardson can’t have too many offensive lapses.
