Miami Hurricanes vs. Texas A&M Aggies Odds
Despite the shocking loss last week, Texas A&M is a 5-point favorite this week at home against Miami and the over/under is set at 48. I’m very surprised by this spread because of how bad the loss was last week. I expected the spread to be in A&M’s favor, but more in the range of 1-3, and 5 just seems like a surprisingly big amount.
The total seems right because Miami’s offense has played well in the first two weeks and has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Tyler Van Dyke, so expect points from them even if the game is on the road. The Aggie offense is more confusing and the total could be more if they end up making a potential change at quarterback to spark the offense.
Miami Hurricanes vs. Texas A&M Aggies Prediction & Pick
This is Miami’s first real chance against a good team on the road. The Aggies should play better after what happened against Appalachian State, but they are going up against a decent team with a great quarterback. The Aggie offense clearly needs a jumpstart, so maybe we see Max Johnson step in as a starter in this game. The bounce back factor is there for A&M, but there’s no reason to not think this game is going to be close. Tyler Van Dyke is very good and the Miami defense is decent as well, and it seems like they are buying in to Mario Cristobal’s message.
The Aggie defense is also very good, and will bail them out if the offense can’t get it going again. Another factor that helps A&M is the fact that this game is at home in Kyle Field. Kyle Field is one of the best environments in college football and those fans are going to do everything they can to not have their team lose two in a row at home. When betting this game, hop on the spread in favor of Miami now because anything less than five seems shaky. Take Miami to cover, they have the better quarterback in this game, so this should be a close game.
The pick: Miami +5
Miami Hurricanes vs. Texas A&M Aggies Key Matchups
Haynes King vs the Miami Passing Defense
Haynes King had a terrible game against Appalachian State, and passed for only 97 yards. The Miami defense came into this year having a good amount of talent, and so far has done well against lesser talent. They had three interceptions and two sacks in their first game and then forced another three turnovers and had three sacks in Week 2. The defensive line hasn’t gotten to the quarterback a ton, but the secondary has been very opportunistic in their first two games, so Haynes King is in for a big challenge in this game.
There’s also a small chance that Haynes King gets replaced for the game or mid-game, but for now he’s the starter, and could be in a lot of trouble against this secondary. This matchup, to me, is going to decide the game because King was the deciding factor in why the offense was so inept against Appalachian State. This matchup is also interesting to watch because if King starts the game off struggling, then Jimbo Fisher might go to another option at quarterback, and that could decide the game too.
